Wake Up Call by Victoria AshleyGenre:  New Adult/Contemporary Romance

~Synopsis~

My heart stopped and suddenly it was hard to breathe. His voice always had that effect on me. It was like poison slowly running through my veins killing me bit by bit. Like a drug that I couldn’t get enough of even though I was almost down to my last breath.

Jace took a step forward and grabbed my hand. He slowly trailed his fingers over my face and backed me into the wall. My heart stopped again if that was even possible. “You can’t leave,” he whispered. “I need you.” His warm breath kissed my lips as he bit his bottom lip and placed both of his hands around my face. They were warm and soft to the touch. Too big for my fragile face, although I wanted to bury myself in them. “Breathe. There is no one here but the two of us. Breathe,” he whispered.

Avery Hale had spent her whole childhood abused by her drunken, hopped-up parents. Broken from a lifetime of hate and pain she grew up realizing that trust and love just didn’t exist. Not in her world at least.

After turning the age of eighteen, she packed up and moved far away determined to escape her hurtful past and start a new life. Once on her own she comes to the conclusion that the emptiness still exist. Doing what she had to survive she found herself mixed up in exotic dancing and meaningless sexual relationships unable to feel anything, for anyone. She was sure that her life was worthless and there was nothing left for her. Or, she thought.

After meeting a beautiful stranger, Jace, her life suddenly is turned upside down. Everything that she truly believed suddenly gets questioned and then she is left to figure out if there is really more to her than she could ever have imagined. Jace, having some secrets of his own puts the pain of his own past behind to do what he can to help Avery. Can the love of another broken person be enough to help Avery, or is she already too far gone?

Avery’s life is pulled in many directions as she tries to find herself, and not everyone and thing is what they seem to be in this story of love, trust and opening up. Finding herself and learning to love herself might just be the hardest thing she’s ever had to do.

Excerpt:

I took a deep breath, leaning against the back of the shower. Was it really that obvious? “I’m fine. I’m just tired and-” “You’re not fine,” he cut in. “And I can’t promise that everything will work out for you, but I can promise you that I will be there to pick up the pieces if they don’t.” He stepped up to the shower and ran his hand over the curtain, his eyes glued to mine. “I keep my promises.” My heart sped up, listening to his heavy breathing from outside of the thin curtain. Suddenly, thoughts of Jace naked and sharing a shower with me clouded my mind and it was the only thing that mattered at the moment. I not only needed him, but I wanted him. I couldn’t deny that fact anymore. The only thing that had been stopping me before was that I was scared. Scared of hurting Jace or possibly even myself. “I care about?” Jace’s words trailed off as I slowly opened the curtain and gazed into his beautiful eyes. He stood there looking shocked and confused as I reached out and grabbed his hand. I slowly trailed my fingertips over his hand, as I looked him in the eye. He was so beautiful. Inside and out. Not a word was spoken as he stepped into the shower, still wearing his briefs and placed his hands on my face. His hands trembled as he slowly ran a finger down to my lip and bit his own. “You’re so fucking beautiful,” he breathed. “I want you to be happy. I want to make you happy.” My heartbeat skyrocketed and my legs became weak as he leaned in and pressed his tender lips against mine. His touch was so sensual and the taste of his mouth was sweeter than sugar, causing me to run my tongue over his lips to get a better taste. I watched, holding my breath, as the water dripped over his perfect body, soaking the briefs that he still wore. It turned me on. The whole room suddenly spun around us as my hands trailed over his bare chest, rubbing his smooth flesh, before resting on the outside of his wet briefs. The feel of his hardness made me moan. I felt my body start to shake uncontrollably as he gripped my wet hips and swung me toward the back wall with passion in his eyes. We both let out a low moan as he pressed me into the shower wall and roughly bit my bottom lip. “Are you sure that you’re ready for this?” he questioned running his hands up my face. “Because once I start, I won’t be able to stop.”

About the Author:

I am a wife, mother of two beautiful girlies, an avid reader, and a new Romance and New Adult author.

I was born and raised in Southern Indiana, but resided in Texas for five years while my husband was in the US Army. It was definitely a journey, but I am so glad to be back in my home state.

Whenever I’m not doing my motherly duties or at the soccer field I absolutely love to read whenever I have a moment to spare. My kindle is never far from my side.

My love of reading increased about a year ago and due to my love of books I decided to try my hand at writing. Already having a set of characters screaming to get out, my story took over and came to life.

With her gone for a minute now was my chance to ask Tucker about this morning. “Hey Tuck, what did you mean about your mom twirling her necklace?” I asked in a muted voice, just to be sure Emmalynne wouldn’t hear me.

“Man, whenever she is lying, she takes her necklace into her hand and twirls it around her fingers. I can always tell by that move what I’m getting for my birthday, it’s so awesome,” he stops to look towards the door to the garage, realizes the coast is still clear, and continues, “I’ll be like am I getting the new Lego Batman? If she says no and twirls that necklace…BOOM! Lego Batman,” he had the most devilish grin appear on his face about the same time Em came back inside through the door leading to the garage.

This is very valuable information I’ve just obtained. Now I’m going to be trying to think back to see if she’s ever twirled her necklace when giving me an answer….hmm…

“Tucker, my child you are relieved of your apple peeling duties, Drew’s parents are on their way here to pick you up,” Emmalynne said to Tucker, and no sooner than the words came out of her mouth he took off, leaving me stuck peeling apples without a backwards glance. Traitor.

Excerpt:

“I knew that tonight would be just us so I wanted it to be special.” Cole rubbed his hands up her arms to rest on her shoulders. “Now, let’s do something about the sticky mess that drink left behind.”

Cole bent down and scooped her up in his arms. Gwen let out a short laugh as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He carried her into the bedroom. There were white rose petals scattered all over the bed and floor along with more candles lighting the room. Cole didn’t seem to notice though as he carried her into the bathroom. Again candles covered nearly every surface in the spacious bathroom. He set her gently down on the vanity chair before moving to turn on the bathwater and adding in some bubbles from a dispenser on the side of the tub. He turned to her with a soft smile on his handsome face as he took a slow step towards her.

“I think this will do.” His eyes never left Gwen’s as he slipped the coat off his shoulders then laid it on the floor next to the chair she was sitting on. He tugged on his tie, leaving it hanging around his neck before sinking to his knees in front of her. Lifting one of her feet, he kissed slowly down from her knee to her ankle while his fingers tenderly took off her shoe. Setting her foot on the ground, he repeated the same treatment to the other leg and shoe before setting the heels off to the side. “I might have a slight addiction to your heels, but tonight I want you as relaxed as possible.” Cole murmured as leaned up and planted a soft kiss on Gwen’s lips.

I’d never known true darkness until the lights went out.
I had never known what it was to be hungry.
Everyone I ever knew was dead. If they weren’t, then they wished they were.
I know I did.

Prue Ashford has been surviving alone in the Australian bush for the last three years. After an unknown virus wiped out most of the human population, she escaped the chaos and hid. Every town and city was locked down into quarantine, but that only led to the inevitable. Death.
Living off the land, avoiding other survivors turned bad, she’s led a lonely life, surviving on the edge of a very narrow cliff. The moment she begins to lose hope is when she meets the handsome and enigmatic, Shaw.
He’s the first human being she’s seen in three years that hasn’t tried to kill her and she doesn’t dare to hope. She’d given up finding anyone alive that still had goodness inside of them.
Her only option if she wants to live is to trust Shaw and he takes her to the isolated community he calls home. Being among people again is it’s own challenge and Prue finds herself tested on every front. Making friends was never easy for her and making them after an apocalypse is even harder.
