Prologue
Savannah 16 hrs earlier
Climbing into bed at my parents’ house, I slide under the covers and curl into a ball. Gripping my comforter in one hand, and my phone in the other, I stare at the screen. I just sent Kayden a text telling him I need to talk, but didn’t know if he was sleeping or not. I keep watching the time on my screen change, each second feels like an eternity.
I’m emotionally drained and feeling completely shattered. I walked away from Kayden after he begged for me to stay. Why didn’t I just stay? I had every right to be scared and think that Kayden slept with Nadia, maybe; I’ve been cheated on before and was completely clueless. All I keep telling myself since the day I left Texas is that I should’ve gone with my gut. I knew deep down Kayden loved me and only me. He’s not given me any reason to doubt his faithfulness. He took a chance on love when we jumped into this crazy beautiful relationship of ours. He gave me what he has given no other women since Lulu, his heart. I can’t even begin to image how he’s feeling right now. I stomped on his heart and made him feel that I don’t trust him.
My phone starts playing Cowboys and Angels; I changed Kayden’s ringtone the night of my birthday. Since it’s the first song Kayden ever sang to me, then he had Dustin Lynch sing it to us as we danced on my birthday; I just knew it was the perfect choice for Kayden. It’s a lot better than Genuwine’s Pony that Kayden set as his ringtone back in December when he was a tad drunk.
I can’t help but smile thinking back to the simpler times; us being carefree and enjoying bon fires on the beach. Little did I know that entire time Jacob and Zak were planning to kidnap me and hold me for ransom. Since then my life has been  a nonstop roller coaster ride of ups and downs.
Taking in a deep breath, I close my eyes and slowly exhale. “Hey…” I answer my voice low and shaky. My nerves are on edge after the run in with Giselle, Logan and Nadia tonight.
“Hey baby. What’s up…everything okay?” I immediately relax hearing Kayden’s voice.
Trying to ignore the butterflies fluttering in my stomach from hearing Kayden call me baby, I decide to just jump straight to the point. “I just got in from Vertigo; you’ll never guess who Brooklyn and I ran into tonight.”
I can hear Kayden moving around in bed on the other end. It makes me miss him even more laying in this bed all alone. It feels like forever since I’ve been in his arms.
“Do I want to even know?” He asks sarcastically.
“Yea, well, Brooklyn spotted Giselle and Logan partying together in Vertigo…I guess they’re an item now. But they weren’t alone, Nadia was there too.” The words taste foul in my mouth. Talking about them makes my stomach churn. I have so much anger boiling inside of me.
I can hear Kayden cursing under his breath; I can just picture him running his strong fingers continuously through his light brown hair. I hate having to have this conversation over the phone.
“If they did anything to upset you Savannah…I swear to God.” Kayden says angrily, his drawl thick and raspy. It always gets thicker when he’s pissed off.
Letting out a sigh, I fight back the tears welling up in my eyes. We’ve mainly been texting back and forth to keep in touch since I came back to LA. Hearing his voice was just too hard, so I’ve refrained from calling him. Hearing him now, even thousands of miles away my body aches for his arms to be around me. I’m not complete without Kayden by my side. Knowing even after what I’ve put him through while trying to figure all this out, he still loves me and worries about me.
“It was a good thing we found them there, I confronted Nadia and she confessed to me that everything she said was a lie. I cannot tell you enough how sorry I am for doubting you. I was just so scared…” My voice trails off and cracks as I fight the tears threatening to break the flood gates. I take in and let out short even breaths as I try to compose myself.
“That lying bitch finally decided to tell the truth now! Well isn’t that nice of her.” The bitterness in Kayden’s voice pierces my heart. This woman put him and me through hell all because of Giselle. “I don’t know what to say Savannah, I told you…hell I begged you to believe me, I was never unfaithful to you. I’m not Logan. Do you think it’s easy for me after what Luanne put me through to trust you?”
Hearing the disappointment in Kayden‘s voice shreds me. I hate that I allow Logan‘s transgressions to affect my trust in Kayden. The mention of Luanne is like a sucker punch to my gut. It‘s hard for me to control those voices in the back of my head telling me Kayden will cheat on me just like Logan did. It never crossed my mind that he may be fighting his own battle against the evil demon’s our exes have plagued us with.
“I don’t know what to say besides I’m sorry and I love you, and if I could go back, I’d do it all differently. I just need you to understand, deep down I believed you. It’s just I had that voice in my head screaming at me to run…so I ran. I want you to understand that from here on out Kayden I’ll be by your side and never doubt you again. Being away from you this past week has been the hardest week of my life. Harder than almost dying.”
Kayden is quiet and for a moment I think I’ve lost him, but then I hear him sigh into the phone. I don’t realize it until now that I was holding my breath waiting for himto say something…anything. “You think it was hard for you?” He drawls, with anger and pain in his voice. “I’m the one who’s been ripping his hair out trying to figure out what the fuck I have to do to make you believe me. I’m just relieved she’s finally stopped this whole fuckin’ charade. We’ve got to work on us Savannah. We’re nothing without trust.”
I cannot agree more. We have off the charts chemistry when we’re together. We love each other immensely, but without trust our relationship will crumble. We can’t build a life on shaky foundation.
Feeling my fight to keep myself together slowly weakening, I decide to focus on what went down at Vertigo tonight with Nadia. I quickly scoot against my headboard, pulling my knees up to my chest and snuggling into my blanket before diving in, “When we confronted Nadia at the club tonight she sang like a canary, and Giselle was beyond pissed, but it wasn’t easy getting the truth outta her. It took Brooklyn and I threatening bodily hard to her, Giselle…and Logan, to get them to come clean. The only thing is it happened right in the middle of Vertigo. So I have no doubt that the argument will spread like wildfire all over the internet by tomorrow.”
I can hear Kayden taking in long sharp breaths, probably trying to refrain himself from jumping on his jet, and coming to LA to beat the living crap out of Logan. “Did she say why she lied? Was it just to get attention? All these people care about is getting their face on a fuckin’ magazine.”
The tears freely fall from my eyes now, I’ve lost the battle with my emotions, and I’ve been through a whirlwind of shit tonight and just can’t fight it anymore. A sob escapes my lips as I try to speak.
“It…was…Giselle.” Climbing to the edge of the bed I grab a tissue off of my night stand, wipe the tears from my face. “There’s something you need to know, Giselle and Nadia paid your assistant for information on when you’d be in Paris, then waited at the Hotel bar for you to show up so they could get pictures with you. Giselle preyed on the fact that I have issues with trust, and I have no doubt in my mind now that I know she’s with Logan.”
“That fuckin’ bitch! She can’t have me, so will do anything to destroy what we have. She will not get away with this. She fucked with the wrong man. And Logan best pray I never see him again, because if I do this time nothing will stop me from beating the living the shit out of him! My assistant will be lucky if she can get a job at McDonalds by the time I’m through with her.”
Hearing the anger in Kayden’s voice, I have no doubts he would probably beat Logan to death for this. They’ve gone too far, and I for one cannot wait to see them pay for what they’ve done. “Well Giselle and Logan will be all over the news by Monday morning, Nadia agreed to come clean to the press. She’s going to tell them the real story, of how Giselle and Logan manipulated and used her for their gain, paying her off to sell the false story of you two having a one night stand in Paris.”
“I can’t believe this. These fuckin’ people don’t give a shit who they hurt, as long as they get whatever the fuck they want. I will be giving my own fuckin’ story to the press too come Monday. By the time I’m through with them, they will have no career left.”
I cannot wait to get Monday over with. Finally have the truth out there, let the world see that Kayden and I are happily together. Giselle is truly a pathetic person. She’s so bitter that Kayden wanted to keep their relationship strictly platonic, and wanted to be with me and not her, that she’d stoop so low to try and destroy us. I’m ready to go home, back to my new home with Kayden in Galveston. Start fresh.
Gazing out the window I watch the stars twinkle in sky above my parents Bel Air mansion. This house is gorgeous, but being here in my room alone is very lonely. I’ve grown accustom to curling up in Kayden’s strong and protective arms every night.
“I’m going to book a flight back to Houston tomorrow first thing.” I tell Kayden matter-of-factly.
“I’m so happy to finally hear those words come out of your mouth, baby. It has been a long fuckin’ week. I’m never letting you go again, even if I have to tie your stubborn ass up and lock you in a closet.”
I let out a small laugh as I think back to Kayden fucking me into oblivion with the best ass fuck’ of my entire life, in my closet.
“What?! You don’t believe me…laugh my sweet Savannah, but baby, I ain’tlyin’.” Kayden’s husky laugh is like music to my ears. After a week of absolute misery, I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“I believe you, I was just laughing because I was recalling a particular time when you were ravishing me against the wall in a certain closet. We definitely gotta do that in your beach house, that closet needs christening.”
“Well darlin’ sorry to burst your bubble, but we’ll have to christen the closet Wednesday. I just flew into Las Vegas today with the boys. We’re doing a guy’s weekend before Braxton settles down and starts poppin’ out babies with Mya.”
“Okay. I hate I have to wait until Wednesday, but you’re worth the wait. Just as soon as you step through that door, I expect to see you naked in that closet wearin’ nothing but that cowboy hat I love.” I blush at my brazenness, but since I’ve been with Kayden I’ve been a lot more vocal about my wants and desires.
“Fuck baby. Don’t talk like that when I have to wait four more days to see you. I’m gonna have to go rub one out in the shower. I can’t get the image out of my head of you very satisfied on the closet floor.”
Fuck it. I need to be with him as soon as physically possible. First thing tomorrow I’m crashin’ his guy’s weekend and flying to Vegas.
A yawn escapes my mouth, even though I want nothing more than to stay awake all night on the phone with Kayden. My body betrays me, screaming at me to sleep. My eye lids are heavy, between crying and being completely spent, I can’t fight sleep any longer.
“Goodnight baby. You’re tired and it’s late. Call or text me tomorrow letting me know when you’re flying back to Texas. Love ya, baby. Everything will be better once we’re back home together.” Kayden drawls into the phone, his voice like a lullaby soothing me.
“Night, Knox. I love you too, more than the moon and all the stars in Texas.” Hanging up, I flick away the last tear from my eyes. I’ve cried too many tears over the last several months. Patting my eyes with my blanket, I roll over, curl into a ball, falling asleep the second I shut my eyes.

 Chapter One
Savannah
“Vegas baby!” Brooklyn shouts for the entire city to hear as we step out of our taxi at the entrance of Kayden’s hotel and casino. It’s right down the road from Paris.
Taking in the bright lights of Vegas, and the Eiffel tower all lit up, I try to get Brooklyn to focus on the task at hand, “Brooklyn! Focus! We need to find Kayden.”
Rolling her eyes and letting out a dramatic sigh, Brooklyn reaches for my hand and pulls me towards the entrance of Knox Hotel and Casino.
“We’ll find Kayden…then we’re going to hit the clubs!”
With Brooklyn, we’ll either end up in jail or close to it by the time we’re through with sin city.
Walking into the lobby I waste no time heading straight to the registration desk. Thankfully the line isn’t too long. Sliding my oversized sunglasses off; I toss them into my purse. After a few minutes of waiting, and inhaling clouds of second hand smoke, I finally am asked to approach the counter.
“Hi, welcome to The Knox Hotel and Casino.” The middle aged woman says greeting us with an overly enthusiastic smile. I don’t know how these people have a voice left, after working in a casino full of cigarette smoke all day. I’ll surely be suffering from laryngitis by the time we leave Las Vegas.
Digging my wallet out of my over-sized Michael Kors purse I flash a small smile, “Hi, I’m Savannah Livingston, fiancée to Kayden Knox. I just need a key card to his penthouse suite.” I try to keep my voice down and not draw attention to us, but that’s hard to do especially with Brooklyn’s popping her gum, and chatting it up with everyone standing in line behind us.
Squinting her eyes at me, the woman with the name tag reading Vivian, looks me over with nothing but doubt in her eyes. I can only imagine how many women try to get up to his suite, once they learn he’s in town. It makes my skin crawl thinking about how many Kayden willingly brought back to his suite. It wasn’t too long ago he was as big of a man whore as Dixon.
“Yeah, and I’m Celine Dion. Sorry doll, you’re not the first nor will you be the last to try and get up to Mr. Knox’s room. If you’d like to book a room, I’d be more than happy to help you. If not then please be on your way, I have a line of people behind you eager to get checked in and start gambling.” She says with her voice dripping with annoyance.
I know she’s only doing her job, and I appreciate that because I don’t want any skank off the street mosey on up to my boyfriend’s suite. But my face has been all over the place for Christ sake! We just did an engagement announcement with People magazine! I definitely don’t want to call Kayden and tell him I’m here; I really want to surprise him. I could call Jax, but I hate asking him to lie to Kayden.
Pulling out my iPhone, I scroll through my photos and pull up a picture of Kayden & I. Letting out an exasperated breathe, I hold me phone in front of her. “There, now can we please have our room cards.” Dropping my phone back into my purse, I glance at Brooklyn, who’s about one second away from jumping over the counter and grabbing a damn key card herself. I definitely don’t want to cause a scene, and be dragged out of here by security. That would be mortifying!
Giving me a weary glance she finally tells us, “I’ll need to see your I.D.’s and then you’re good to go. I’m sorry for the inconvenience; I hope you understand I’m just trying to do my job.” Brooklyn and I waste no time fishing our I.D.’s out of our wallets. Within seconds Vivian is sliding our key cards and welcoming us to ’Fabulous Las Vegas’.
*****
Looking in the mirror I am shocked at how I look. I’ve finally put some weight back on from my accident, and got a kick ass tan going on. I just straightened my hair and finished the last few touches on my makeup. I slipped into a micro mini sequin dress and hot pink pumps. I’m going to get my man and make him want to take me into the closest room we can find.
I can hear Clarity blasting from Brooklyn’s phone as I walk into the living room of Kayden’s penthouse suite. Thankfully they’re all out, so it gave us time to freshen up before we go and hunt them down.  I immediately know its Dixon calling her cell. She set that ringtone for him a few weeks ago and it is perfect for them. I can’t for the life of me wrap my head around whatever the hell they are. She’s sort of seeing Jax, but still talking to Dixon. As soon as he heard from Kayden that things were getting serious between Brooklyn and Jax, Dixon started showing up a lot more.
“Heyyyy!” I hear Brooklyn say in her valley voice. “Oh really, well sounds like you’re having a hell of a lot more fun than Savannah and I.”
I called it weeks ago, I told Brooklyn, he doesn’t want to commit to her, but doesn’t want her to commit to anyone else. He wants her to be with just him, but wants the freedom to stick his dick into any other chick he wants. If I was Brooklyn I would’ve kicked him upside the head a long time ago. I guess she enjoys the drama and excitement, I know myself I much rather stick to a low key, drama free relationship. I’ve had enough drama in my life these last several months, to last me a freakin’ life time!
Walking across the marble floor, you can hear my heels clicking and clacking. The sounds echoing throughout the massive suite, grabbing my clutch, I dig my phone out and check my messages. Brooklyn’s just ending her call with Dixon, when I finish up my text to Kayden,
Me:
I can’t wait until Tuesday, so I can finally c u & make up for lost time. Glad all this shit is behind us, we can finally move on with our lives. ❤ u! c u soon xoxo
Wrapping her arm around my waist and pulling me against her, Brooklyn flashes me a devilish grin practically blinding me with her megawatt smile. “Okay, so here’s the plan. Dixon said they’re all just leaving dinner and heading back here for some UFC party they’re throwing at Vertigo here in the hotel. So we need to get our hot little ass’s outta here in case they decide to stop up here for anything beforehand.”
“Dixon, seriously Brooklyn?” I ask with sarcasm in my voice. Shaking my head at her, we quickly head out of the suite, and down to the elevators.
Letting out a small laugh Brooklyn snaps her head around, “Hey! Don’t judge me! That guy is a rock star in the sack. Jax can rock my world, don’t get me wrong, but Dixon is in a category all of his own. You can tell he and Kayden are related…that’s all I’ll say.”
Rolling my eyes and letting an aggravated moan escape my mouth, I whip my eyes from Brooklyn to the elevator. “Brooklyn, seriously I really don’t want to hear about Dixon’s penis at the moment.” Pressing the button for the elevator we jump on as soon as the doors slide open.
“Hey, I can’t allow you to be the only one able to brag about the Texas sized dick her boyfriend has. I’ve had my fair share of Oscar Mayer wieners, so when I get a large Southern sausage, I’m going to freakin’ brag about it!” Brooklyn says giggling and bumping hips with me. “Chill out Savannah, you’re going to go find Kayden, have wild animalistic make-up sex and all will be right with the world again.”
Leaning against the wall of the elevator listening to the rock music pumping out of the speakers, I can’t help but feel a knot twisting in my stomach. I feel like it isn’t going to be that easy. I seriously wish I would’ve punched that bitch Giselle in the face last night. She is so jealous of my relationship with Kayden that she went as far as selling a fake ass story to the press. Then, having her friend tell various magazines that she slept with Kayden when he was in Paris for work.
I hate myself for doubting Kayden, but I didn’t know what to think. Logan cheated on me with half of LA, and I was freakin’ clueless that it was going on. He was just as romantic, and loving as Kayden. I’m only human. I just hope this doesn’t cause strain on our relationship, and we can move forward with our lives. Start planning our wedding, and finally get our happily ever after. We’ve been through too much crap in such a short amount of months. I think it’s about time fate cuts us some slack, and let us be freakin’ happy!
*****
After a lot of persuading we finally got into the party. I guess Vertigo is only open to guests who are on the list to attend. It’s some big UFC party for an upcoming fight next weekend. Brooklyn flirted our way through the line since the bouncer could care less that I’m engaged to the owner of the hotel.
The club is packed and it’s only nine p.m. I can’t believe some of the people who are here. I know UFC is a popular sport, but wow! Some of the biggest names in Hollywood are here tonight. My jaw drops when I spot the UFC poster hanging above the DJ. Staring down at me is Shayne…my random one-night-stand from last Halloween. Who just so happened to be in LA partying last night! No wonder he said he knew Kayden.
“Want me to go grab you a drink?” Brooklyn shouts in my ear, snapping me out of my state of shock.
Turning around I stare at Brooklyn with my eyes wide, the music is so loud it’s impossible to have a conversation without yelling to one another. Grabbing her arm and ignoring her question, I point my finger towards the DJ and the massive banner with Shayne on it.
I give Brooklyn my, ‘Oh FUCK!’ look as I try to process that tonight may not go as planned.
“Holy shit! Shayne Andrews is Shayne…LA Shayne?! He’s a UFC fighter?”
Grabbing her hand I drag her into the bathroom of the night club. Pulling her down onto the circle couch in the corner of the room, I rest my face in my hands. “Oh. My. God, Brooklyn. What am I going to do if I find Kayden, and he wants to introduce me to the guys the party is for? What do I say, oh hey, I already know him because he handcuffed me to his car and fucked my brains out last Halloween?!”
Brooklyn not holding back laughs and tells me, “Your life is more juicy then the damn soap operas Savannah. You just can’t make this shit up!”
Dropping my hands onto my lap, I drag my gaze from the tile floor and lock eyes with Brooklyn. “I’m glad you find this whole thing so entertaining.” I say with a little more attitude then I planned, but I am royally pissed off right now. I am sick and tired of the freaking paparazzi constantly in my face. It’s only a matter of time before they realize we’re in Vegas. Then they’ll be back to shoving cameras in our face, and making up some more stories about us.
Gripping my shoulder and shaking me playfully, Brooklyn flashes me a small smile, “Listen, that’s just worst case scenario. This place is bursting at seams with people. I highly doubt you’ll see Shayne. Hell, it’s going to be hard enough tracking down Knox in this place tonight.”
I guess she’s right; the odds of seeing Shayne are pretty slim. This place is insane, and more than likely he’ll be sitting in a VIP booth the entire time drinking expensive champagne, while being surrounded by ten bimbo Barbie’s.
“You’re right. I need to stay sober and alert tonight, so let’s go to the bar, and I’ll grab myself a water. I am not letting anything get in the way of Kayden and me again. I just want to find him, and get the hell outta hear.”
Standing I adjust my dress, check my make-up in the mirror and working up the courage to head back out into the club, praying that tonight doesn’t turn into a drama fest!
*****
Standing against the bar, I watch the Go-Go dancers dancing beside the DJ while waiting to order our drinks. Brooklyn’s texting away on her phone while I’m scanning the club for any sign of Kayden.
The dance floor is directly in front of us, and is jam packed with people. I can’t help but think back to last year when we came to Vegas. It was just Brooklyn and I while Logan stayed back in LA for work. We had a blast doing a girls weekend. Gambling, dancing until four in the morning with total strangers. It was carefree fun. Its crazy reflecting back on my life a year ago, compared to what it is now. I was with Logan, and settling for what I thought was love. Before Kayden, I had no idea what true love felt like.
I’d take this crazy insane life, over a quiet peaceful one any day. As long as I’m with Kayden that’s all I care about. He makes all the trials and tribulations worth it. I know we’ve both made mistakes and been through a lot, but I believe our love is strong enough to make it through anything.
“Oh shit…you’re not going to like this, but things just got a little more complicated.” Brooklyn says with panic in her voice, snapping me out thoughts.
Taking in a sharp breathe, I prepare myself for whatever it is Brooklyn has to tell me. “Oh god, what now?” I ask leaning against the bar and watching Brooklyn as she reads whatever it is she’s looking at on her phone.
I am two seconds away from ordering a shot of Whiskey, because I’m in desperate need of something to calm my nerves. To top it off, Kayden has yet to text me back; which is totally unlike him, he always responds back to me no matter how busy he is.
Stepping closer to me, Brooklyn squeezes herself between a group of girls shouting their order to the bartender. “This is not good…god damn blood suckers, will do anything for a story.” Shaking her head and looking as if she’s ready to kick the crap out of someone, she holds her phone up in front of me so I can see what’s got her fired up.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” I shout snatching the phone from her hands and scrolling as I speed read the story written about me. “Seriously, can I not go one freakin’ day without my name on this damn blog!”
Brooklyn gives me a sympathetic look, but before she can say anything the bartender finally asked her what she wanted to order. Sliding my eyes back to her phone I read the words that will most likely ruin my night,
‘Savannah Livingston shows Kayden Knox his betrayal isn’t getting her down. She was spotted late last night in Knox’s LA night club no less, partying it up with a sexy up and coming UFC fighter. Shayne ‘Knock Out’ Andrews who has a fight against heavy weight champ, Juan Riviera next Saturday in Las Vegas.’
Of course the picture plastered across the top of the story…Shayne taking a belly shot off of me last night! I swear I could kill Brooklyn right now. I never should’ve let her drag me up onto that bar. At the time I was so confused with everything going with Nadia claiming she slept with Kayden, that I was doing anything to distract myself from the mess my life was.
“Do you think Kayden’s seen this yet?” Brooklyn asks handing me my water.
Letting out a long sigh, I hand her back her phone. I’m done reading their half-truths and over exaggerated lies. Of course, they threw in the drama with Giselle, Logan, and her skanky lying friend Nadia. I love how “witnesses” saw firsthand all the crap that went down last night, but couldn‘t get a fact straight for the life of them.
Hopefully my PR can clean this mess up, and Nadia keeps her word and tells the truth to everyone; letting the world know she lied. Everyone will know how low Giselle and Logan sank to try and break up Kayden and I. Paying someone to sell a false story to Magazines, It’s just pathetic and wrong on so many levels.
Knowing Shayne is here had my stomach doing flip flops already, now it feels like it’s been tossed into a blender, and put on high speed. With this story being leaked and the press making it look like I hooked up with Shayne last night; there’s a whole new storm in the horizon.
“Well it may explain Kayden not responding to the text I sent earlier. I told him last night I talked to Nadia and she told me everything was a lie. He was fine, I told him I’d be heading to Galveston and see him when he got back from Vegas.”
“We’ve gotta clear this shit up pronto!” Grabbing my hand Brooklyn drags me away from the bar. We zigzag through the crowd of people dancing, after being groped by a sleezball, and then a couple getting hot and heavy bumping into me, spilling my water almost down the front of me. We finally make it where the VIP entrance is. There’s two bouncers observing who enters the restricted area, because there’s some big name celebrity’s here tonight.
Vertigo is packed and pitch black, the only lighting is the strobe lights, which is making it even harder to search for Kayden, Dixon, Jax and Braxton. After getting past Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, we make our way through the VIP section. Stopping for a moment, we scan the area looking around at the tables of people. Thankfully everyone‘s to busy partying to notice us staring at them.
“Kayden knows better than anyone to not believe shit he reads on Tinsel Town blog, but that picture…like the one of Nadia and him, may hurt your case a little. And we know Knox has a temper, so let’s pray he doesn‘t run into Shayne tonight.” Brooklyn says as she continues looking for the guys, All I see is a bunch of old men surrounded by young bimbos doing anything to land their sugar daddy for the evening.
“I don’t see Kayden anywhere Brooklyn. I think we should text Dixon, see where they are or Jax…I really don’t care anymore. I need to find Kayden and fix this.”
Looking defeated, and silently agreeing with me, Brooklyn digs her phone out of her bag. I feel someone brush by me, their cologne smelling all too familiar. The sounds of overly excited women beside me flood my ears, turning around my eyes fall onto Shayne. He’s with a group of girls who look like they belong in Hugh Heffner’s Playboy mansion.
Fan-fucking-tastic. I divert my eyes to the floor, spinning back towards Brooklyn. Gripping her shoulder, I push her and shout into her ear, “Go…now!” Tripping over her 6” stilettos, Brooklyn flashes a pissed off look at me as she catches herself on the stranger in front of her.
Too freaked out to care, I keep moving, “Shayne is right behind me, move your ass now!” I shout as I walk past her grabbing her wrist, pulling her behind me, I move as fast as I can and get away from Shayne before he recognizes me. I’m now grateful for this place being pitched dark, because that was almost disastrous.
“Damn it Savannah! I practically snapped my frickin’ ankle! Shayne’s here? What the hell? Does he have a freakin’ GPS on your ass or something.” She spits out as she tries to keep up with me.
With panic coursing through my body, I maneuver through the crowd trying to make my way out of the VIP area. Looking behind me I spot Shayne joining a group of people at a table. Seriously, I cannot escape this man!
Looking over at Brooklyn, I try to speak, but my voice shakes as my heart tries to slow back down to normal, I take in a few quick breaths before finally speaking. “I don’t know but I swear out of all of these people I run into Shayne, literally bumped into each other. Thank God he didn’t realize it was me and try to talk to me. I just need to find Kayden and clear everything up.”
Making our way across Vertigo, we try to look around for Kayden and the guys. Dixon texted Brooklyn back saying they are here and just got a table. She had to tell him that we’re in Vegas so he wouldn‘t think she‘s being a stalker and checking on his every move.
He also confirmed to Brooklyn what I already knew; Kayden has seen the pictures from Vertigo in Los Angeles last night. Between being hung over, and so stressed out, I feel literally sick to my stomach. I’m about two second’s away from bolting out of here and just waiting for Kayden back in Texas.
“Dixon said they’re on the far end of the VIP area, since we know Shayne is sitting with his posse at the beginning of the VIP, we’ll go around the other way. Try to avoid another run with him.” Taking my hand, and giving me a sympathetic smile we make the walk back to the VIP lounge.
Every step I take, the more nervous I become. Knowing Kayden is ignoring me and rightly pissed off is ripping me apart. I should’ve done a lot of things differently over the last several days. Now I just hope and pray Kayden will have more faith in me then I had in him.

Author Interview
Anthony Bryan,
Author of The Suicide Princess

Q: First, tell us a little about you, who you are, and your background.

A: My name is Anthony Bryan, and I’m a writer. I’ve been writing for almost my whole life, and a couple of years ago I began ghost writing for others – it’s basically my work with their name on it. I decided it’s time to start writing for me, and I couldn’t think of a better, more fun genre than an erotic thriller.

I was born and raised in London, U.K., but I’ve spent the bulk of my adult life in the United States.  I actually served with the American military, and I served in combat operations in eastern Afghanistan.  I train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai fighting, and a perpetual black eye is part of my attire.  I guess you could say I’ve been around, and I’m not the stereotypical erotic author.  But that’s a good thing – I’m different, and so is what I write…

Q: So, you said you’re a writer. Tell us some of what you’ve written.

A: Unfortunately, I can’t reveal the work I did as a ghost writer because of agreements I’ve signed with the listed authors. But I’m stepping out of the shadows and into the spotlight with my debut title The Suicide Princess.

Q: The Suicide Princess? That sounds like a powerful title. Is the story behind it equally as impressive?

A: It’s even better.  Imagine taking a suspenseful thriller, a contemporary romance, and the hottest erotica and slamming them all together at over one hundred miles per hour – what you’d have is The Suicide Princess.  Stephanie Bradford has a near perfect husband and what looks like the perfect life. But when her marriage falls into a romantic rut, she’s skillfully swooned by a charming and intriguing stranger who looks to be the answer to all of her fantasies. A whirlwind and erotic affair quickly spirals out of control, and before long, Stephanie learns that things aren’t always as they appear, and people are rarely who they seem. One poor decision becomes the catalyst that rips her life apart, and Stephanie is left with nothing but the thirst for revenge against the man who viciously stole everything from her. It’s going to leave you begging for more!

Q: Your ARC reviews all comment on how incredibly hot this book is. Tell us more about that.

A: I know there are a lot of amazing stories out there that have little if any raw sexual appeal. And on the flip side, there are a lot of erotic stories that are smoking hot but have no story. I wanted to write something that has both. I created an incredibly hot story that will absolutely leave you wanting to grab your significant other and tear him apart.  It’s a “change your panties, close the bedroom door, and get you laid,” kind of hot… but with an awesome story going on at the same time.  I can’t think of a better way to write!

Q: You mentioned “raw sexual appeal” in your last response. So, speaking of which, we noticed both of your leading male characters, Derrick and Jacob, have their own sex appeal.  Which of the two are you more like?

A: I think any author will admit that a part of themselves will always seep into their characters, so I guess in many ways I’m a lot like both Derrick and Jacob. Jacob, being an airline pilot and having served in a combat role in the military, has a lot of similarities to my life. But Derrick, with his cocky, funny, and charming personality, has a lot in common with my personality.  They both have their own kind of sexual appeal, and since they’re so different from one another, Stephanie is completely torn between them.  To be perfectly honest, I think I’m equal parts Derrick and Jacob.  Jacob is my nice side, and Derrick is my bad-boy side.

Q: Ok, before we start asking about your bad-boy side, we need to change the subject fast! Tell us how you started writing.

A: When I first came home from Afghanistan, I was kind of in a dark place. I had a hard time adjusting to what I had been through, and I was just “lost,” for lack of a better word.  But I started writing about my experiences there, my feelings, and my emotions, and I started feeling better.  It didn’t take long for writing to become my “safe place.”  I could go there any time I wanted, and I just loved the stories I was creating. It took a while, but eventually I started sharing what I was writing, and everything just grew from there.

Q: Wow! That is an amazing story and very deep – thank you so much for serving for us.  So, you’re a fighter/soldier turned writer with a British accent and an amazing imagination.  Thanks so much for doing this interview, and we can’t wait for your book to be released.

A: You’re so welcome, for both, and The Suicide Princess will be out on November 5, 2013. Visit my website at www.AnthonyBryanAuthor.com, and there are links there to follow me on Facebook and Goodreads.

Excerpt From The Suicide Princess
by Anthony Bryan

One of Derrick’s new friends invited him to play pool, but Derrick kindly declined, “Sorry, man. I have someone else I need to focus my attention on.”

The stranger coaxingly said, “Yeah, I’d be scared, too.”

Derrick glanced at Stephanie as she leaned in and said, “If you don’t go play and kick that guy’s ass, I’m leaving you here alone.”

Derrick smiled his mischievous smile and looked to the stranger, “For money or fun?”

The stranger said, “One hundred?”

“One hundred it is, my man. Rack ‘em up,” Derrick said as he shook his new friend’s hand.

Stephanie sipped her third drink as she watched Derrick easily defeat his new friend. At the end of the game, Derrick said, “Must be my lucky night! One hundred, right?”

The stranger pulled a fold of money from his pocket and began counting when Derrick continued, “No, no, no. It’s cool, man. I had fun.”

The stranger said, “A bet’s a bet, and I always pay up.”

“Tell you what,” said Derrick. “Let me and my girl cut in for a game on the table, and we’ll call it even. That’s worth more than the hundred to me.”

“It’s all yours,” said the stranger while giving Derrick a pat on the back.

Derrick reached his hand out toward Stephanie, and she grasped it tightly, intertwining their fingers. She pulled in close to him and said, “I’m your girl, huh?”

“Tonight you are,” Derrick said as he shot Stephanie a wink.

“Your break,” Derrick declared as he racked the balls.

Derrick then watched as Stephanie began to shoot. He stood behind her and said, “Here put your hands like this.”

“Okay, and then what?” she asked.

Derrick pulled in close behind Stephanie as he was showing her how to correctly hold the cue. His lips were an inch from her ear, and Derrick took the opportunity to whisper “Did that get your panties wet watching me beat that guy?”

Stephanie turned back, smiled, and said, “It would have, if I was wearing any.”

Derrick reacted by sliding his hand across Stephanie’s stomach and gently pulling her back into him. He simultaneously pressed himself forward, and Stephanie felt Derrick’s bulge pressing into her. Stephanie could easily feel how hard Derrick was as he said, “Feel that? That’s what you do to me.”

Stephanie looked around as she slid her hand down Derrick’s stomach and over his crotch. She said, “I think it’s time for me to leave, but I’m scared. Think you could walk me to my car?”

“It depends where your car is. This neighborhood can be awfully sketchy,” Derrick said with a mocking tone.

Stephanie told Derrick, “It’s in the very dark, very secluded parking lot in the alley out back.”

Derrick replied, “Then I’m definitely not going back there. Look at what I’m wearing, I might end up getting raped back there,” as he laughed.

Stephanie started walking away and said, “Up to you. But if you do want something bad to happen, come follow me.”

Derrick watched as Stephanie took a few steps away without looking back. He looked at how her tight skirt formed beautifully around her ass, and he noticed how sexy her legs were in her red heels. It only took another step before Derrick was close in tow behind Stephanie.

The pair quickly reached the driver’s side door of Stephanie’s brand new white Volvo as she said, “This is me.”

Without saying a word, Derrick turned Stephanie so her back was pressed against the car door. He wrapped his right arm around her lower back, and he slid the fingers on his left hand through her hair at the nape of her neck and pulled her head in and began kissing her.

Stephanie, again trying desperately to not think of Jacob, noticed how different this kiss was compared to the kiss of her husband. Jacob’s kisses were always soft, slow, gentle, and deliberate. Derrick’s kiss was filled with depth and passion. The way his lips met hers and the way Derrick caressed her tongue with his set Stephanie on fire.

As they were kissing, Derrick’s hand slid down and began caressing Stephanie’s ass. As he felt, Derrick said, “You lied, you are wearing panties.”

Feeling the potent combination of Derrick’s powerful sexuality and the cocktails from the bar, Stephanie started opening the car door and replied, “Then get in here and punish me.”

Stephanie sat in the soft tan leather of the driver’s seat, but she quickly moved herself over to the passenger’s side to make room for Derrick. Derrick sat in and adjusted the seat all the way back, and the new car smell mixed with the leather interior to create a wonderful scent. The two continued their passionate kissing as Derrick’s hands wandered all over Stephanie’s toned, sexy body.

Stephanie started to slide over on to Derrick’s lap, and she pulled her skirt up just enough so she could straddle her legs around him while facing him. Once on top of Derrick, she began unbuttoning her top, and she said, “Remember what you told me you wanted to watch the other day? That show you wanted?”

Derrick said he remembered it quite well.

“Well…..” Stephanie said as she pulled her skirt even higher revealing the front of her red, lace thong. She continued, “Just watch.”

Stephanie stared directly at Derrick as she unbuttoned her top further and pulled the front of her bra down. She revealed her perfectly shaped C-cup breasts, and she began massaging them with both hands. After a moment, only one hand remained on her breasts as she began to place two fingers in her mouth, sucking them to get them wet. Once her fingers were dripping with saliva, Stephanie slid her hand down the front of her thong, and Derrick watched as she began fingering herself under her panties.

My Review:

4.7 Star Review – Dare To Love

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book by Carly.  This book includes Erotic fun, passion, laughs, heartache, and betrayal.

What can I say besides hot and steamy.  If you are looking for that in a book Carly delivers it in spades.

Ian Dare wants Riley.  She is friends with his half brother so she is off limits.  Or is she??

Dare will do whatever it takes to get her.  He has to be in control.  She is very independent and insists on doing things for herself.

Two headstrong people collide and the passion flares out of control pulling them both into a twisted relationship that neither of them might be able to control.

Love both of these characters.  They are both funny and sweet together.  Plenty of steamy scenes and plenty of chemistry.

Can’t wait for Carly’s next book in this series.

CHAPTER ONE

Once a year, the Dare siblings gathered at the Club Meridian Ballroom in South Florida to celebrate the birthday of the father many of them despised.  Ian Dare raised his glass filled with Glenlivet and took a sip, letting the slow burn of fine scotch work its way down his throat and into his system.  He’d need another before he fully relaxed.
“Hi, big brother.”  His sister, Olivia, strode up to him and nudged him with her elbow.
“Watch the drink,” he said, wrapping his free arm around her shoulders for an affectionate hug.  “Hi, Olivia.”
She returned the gesture with a quick kiss on his cheek.  “It’s nice of you to be here.”
He shrugged.  “I’m here for Avery and for you.  Although why you two forgave him –“
“Uh-uh.  Not here.”  She wagged a finger in front of his face.  “If I have to put on a dress, we’re going to act civilized.”
Ian stepped back and took in his twenty-four year old sister for the first time.  Wearing a gold gown, her dark hair up in a chic twist, it was hard to believe she was the same bane of his existence who’d chased after him and his friends until they relented and let her play ball with them.
“You look gorgeous,” he said to her.
She grinned.  “You have to say that.”
“I don’t.  And I mean it.  I’ll have to beat men off with sticks when they see you.”  The thought darkened his mood.
“You do and I’ll have your housekeeper short sheet your bed!  Again, there should be perks to getting dressed like this and getting laid should be one of them.”
“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that,” he muttered and took another sip of his drink.
“You not only promised to come tonight, you swore you’d behave.”
Ian scowled.  “Good behavior ought to be optional considering the way he flaunts his assets,” he said with a nod toward where Robert Dare held court.
Around him sat his second wife of nine years, Savannah Dare and their daughters, Sienna and Samantha, along with their nearest and dearest country club friends.  Missing were his other two sons, but they’d show up soon.
Olivia placed a hand on his shoulder.  “He loves her, you know.  And Mom’s made her peace.”
“Mom had no choice once she found out about her.”
Robert Dare had met the much younger Savannah Sheppard, and to hear him tell it, fell instantly in love.  She was now the mother of his four other children, the oldest of whom was twenty-five.  Ian had just turned thirty.  Anyone could do the math and come up with two families at the same time.  The man was beyond fertile, that was for damned sure.
At the reminder, Ian finished his drink and placed the tumbler on a passing server’s tray.  “I showed my face.  I’m out of here.”  He started for the exit.
“Ian, hold on,” his sister said, frustration in her tone.
“What? Do you want me to wait until they sing ‘Happy Birthday’? No thanks.  I’m leaving.”
Before they could continue the discussion, their half-brother Alex strode through the double entrance with a spectacular-looking woman holding tight to his arm, and Ian’s plans changed.
Because of her.
Some people had presence; others merely wished they possessed that magic something.  In her bold red dress and fuck-me heels, she owned the room.  And he wanted to own her.  Petite and curvy, with long chocolate-brown hair that fell down her back in wild curls, she was the antithesis of every too-thin female he’d dated and kept at arm’s length.  But she was with his half-brother, which meant he had to steer clear.
“I thought you were leaving,” Olivia said from beside him.
“I am.”  He should.  If he could tear his gaze away from her.
“If you wait for Tyler and Scott, you might just relax enough to have fun,” she said of their brothers.  “Come on, please?” Olivia used the pleading tone he never could resist.
“Yeah please, Ian? Come on,” his sister Avery said, joining them, looking equally mature in a silver gown that showed way too much cleavage.  At twenty-two, she was similar in coloring and looks to Olivia, and he wasn’t any more ready to think of her as a grown-up, never mind letting other men ogle her – than he was with her sister.
Ian set his jaw, amazed these two hadn’t been the death of him yet.
“So what am I begging him to do?” Avery asked Olivia.
Olivia grinned.  “I want him to stay and hang out for awhile.  Having fun is probably out of the question, but I’m trying to persuade him to let loose.”
“Brat,” he muttered, unable to hold back a smile at Olivia’s persistence.
He stole another glance at his lady in red.  He could no more leave than he could approach her, he thought, frustrated because he was a man of action, and right now, he could do nothing but watch her.
“Well?” Olivia asked.
He forced his gaze to his sister and smiled.  “Because you two asked so nicely, I’ll stay.”  But his attention remained on the woman now dancing and laughing with his half-brother.
#
Riley Taylor felt his eyes on her from the moment she entered the elegantly decorated ballroom on the arm of another man.  As it was, her heels made it difficult enough to maneuver gracefully.  Knowing a devastatingly sexy man watched her every move only made not falling on her ass even more of a challenge.
Alex Dare, her best friend, was oblivious.  Being the star quarterback of the Tampa Breakers meant he was used to stares and attention.  Riley wasn’t.  And since this was his father’s birthday bash, he knew everyone here.  She didn’t.
She definitely didn’t know him.  She’d managed to avoid this annual party in the past with a legitimate work excuse one year, the flu another, but this year, Alex knew she was down in the dumps due to job problems and he’d insisted she come along and have a good time.
While Alex danced with his mother then sisters, she headed for the bar and asked the bartender for a glass of ice water.  She took a sip and turned to go find a seat, someplace where she could get off her feet and slip free of her offending heels.
She’d barely taken half a step when she bumped into a hard, suit-clad body.  The accompanying jolt sent her water spilling from the top of her glass and into her cleavage.  The chill startled her as much as the liquid that dripped down her chest.
“Oh!” She teetered on her stilettos, and big, warm hands grasped her shoulders, steadying her.
She gathered herself and looked up into the face of the man she’d been covertly watching.  “You,” she said on a breathy whisper.
His eyes, a steely gray with a hint of blue in the depths, sparkled in amusement and something more.  “Glad you noticed me too.”
She blinked, mortified, no words rushing into her brain to save her.  She was too busy taking him in.  Dark brown hair stylishly cut, cheekbones perfectly carved, and a strong jaw completed the package.  And the most intense heat emanated from his touch as he held onto her arms.  His big hands made her feel small, not an easy feat when she was always conscious of her too-full curves.
She breathed in deeply and was treated to a masculine woodsy scent that turned her insides to pure mush.  Full-scale awareness rocked her to her core.  This man hit all her right buttons.
“Are you all right?” he asked.
“I’m fine.”  Or she would be if he’d release her so she could think.  Instead of telling him so, she continued to stare into his handsome face.
“You certainly are,” he murmured.
A heated flush rushed to her cheeks at the compliment and a delicious warmth invaded her system.
“I’m sorry about the spill,” he said.
At least she hoped he was oblivious to her ridiculous attraction to him.
“You’re wet.”  He released her and reached for a napkin from the bar.
Yes, she was.  In wholly inappropriate ways considering they’d barely met.  Desire pulsed through her veins.  Oh my God, what was it about this man that caused reactions in her body another man would have to work overtime to achieve?
He pressed the thin paper napkin against her chest and neck.  He didn’t linger, didn’t stroke her anywhere he shouldn’t, but she could swear she felt the heat of his fingertips against her skin.  Between his heady scent and his deliberate touch, her nerves felt raw and exposed.  Her breasts swelled, her nipples peaked and she shivered, her body tightening in places she’d long thought dormant.  If he noticed, he was too much of a gentleman to say.
No man had ever awakened her senses this way before.  Sometimes she wondered if that was a deliberate choice on her part.  Obviously not, she thought and forced herself to step back, away from his potent aura.
He crinkled the napkin and placed the paper onto the bar.
“Thank you,” she said.
“My pleasure.”  The word, laced with sexual innuendo, rolled off his tongue, and his eyes darkened, an indication that this crazy attraction she experienced wasn’t one-sided.
“Maybe now we can move onto introductions.  I’m Ian Dare,” he said.
She swallowed hard, disappointment rushing through her as she realized for all her awareness of him, he was the one man at this party she ought to stay away from.  “Alex’s brother.”
“Half brother,” he bit out.
“Yes.”  She understood his pointed correction.  Alex wouldn’t want any more of a connection to Ian than Ian did to Alex.
“You have your father’s eyes,” she couldn’t help but note.
His expression changed, going from warm to cold in an instant.  “I hope that’s the only thing you think that bastard and I have in common.”
Riley raised her eyebrows at the bitter tone.  Okay, she understood he had his reasons but she was a stranger.
Ian shrugged, his broad shoulders rolling beneath his tailored dark suit.  “What can I say? Only a bastard would live two separate lives with two separate families at the same time.”
“You do lay it out there,” she murmured.
His eyes glittered like silver ice.  “It’s not like everyone here doesn’t know it.”
Though she ought to change the subject, he’d been open, so she decided to ask what was on her mind.  “If you’re still so angry with him, why come for his birthday?”
“Because my sisters asked me to,” he said, his tone turning warm and indulgent.
A hint of an easier expression changed his face from hard and unyielding to devastatingly sexy once more.
“Avery and Olivia are much more forgiving than me,” he explained.
She smiled at his obvious affection for his siblings.  As an only child, she envied them a caring, older brother.  At least she’d had Alex, she thought and glanced around looking for the man who’d brought her here.  She found him on the dance floor, still with his mother, and relaxed.
“Back to introductions,” Ian said.  “You know my name; now it’s your turn.”
“Riley Taylor.”
“Alex’s girlfriend,” he said with disappointment.  “I saw you two walk in.”
That’s what he thought? “No, we’re friends.  More like brother and sister than anything else.”
His eyes lit up and she caught a glimpse of yet another expression – pleasantly surprised.  “That’s the best news I’ve heard all night,” he said in a deep, compelling tone, his hot gaze never leaving hers.
At a loss for words, Riley remained silent.
“So, Ms. Riley Taylor, where were you off to in such a hurry?” he asked.
“I wanted to rest my feet,” she admitted.
He glanced down at her legs, taking in her red pumps.  “Ahh.  Well I have just the place.”
Before she could argue, and if she’d realized he’d planned to drag her off alone, she might have – Ian grasped her arm and guided her to the exit at the far side of the room.
“Ian –“
“Shh. You’ll thank me later.  I promise.”  He pushed open the door and they stepped out onto a deck that wasn’t in use this evening.
Sticky night air surrounded them, but being a Floridian, she was used to it, and obviously so was he.  His arm still cupping her elbow, he led her to a small love seat and gestured for her to sit.
She sensed he was a man who often got his own way and though she’d never found that trait attractive before, on him it worked.  She settled into the soft cushions.  He did the same, leaving no space between them, and she liked the feel of his hard body aligned with hers.  Her heart beat hard in her chest, excitement and arousal pounding away inside her.
Around them, it was dark, the only light coming from sconces on the nearby building.
“Put your feet up.”  He pointed to the table in front of them.
“Bossy,” she murmured.
Ian grinned.  He was and was damned proud of it.  “You’re the one who said your feet hurt,” he reminded her.
“True.”  She shot him a sheepish look that was nothing short of adorable.
The reverberation in her throat went straight to Ian’s cock, and he shifted in his seat, pure sexual desire now pumping through his veins.
He’d been pissed off and bored at his father’s ridiculous birthday gala.  Even his sisters had barely been able to coax a smile from him.  Then she’d walked into the room.
Because she was with his half-brother, Ian hadn’t planned on approaching her, but the minute he’d caught sight of her alone at the bar, he’d gone after her, compelled by a force beyond his understanding.  Finding out she and Alex were just friends had made his night because she’d provide a perfect distraction to the pain that followed him whenever his father’s other family was near.
“Shoes?” he reminded her.
She dipped her head and slipped off her heels, moaning in obvious relief.
“That sound makes me think of other things,” he said, capturing her gaze.
“Such as?” She unconsciously swayed closer and he suppressed a grin.
“Sex.  With you.”
“Oh.”  Her lips parted with the word, and Ian couldn’t tear his gaze away from her lush, red-painted mouth.
A mouth he could envision many uses for, none of them tame.
“Is this how you charm all your women?” she asked.  “Because I’m not sure it’s working.”  A teasing smile lifted her lips, contradicting her words.
He had her, all right, as much as she had him.
He kept his gaze on her face, but he wasn’t a complete gentleman and couldn’t resist brushing his hand over her tight nipples showing through the fabric of her dress.
Her eyes widened in surprise at the same time a soft moan escaped, sealing her fate.  He slid one arm across the love seat until his fingers hit her mass of curls, and he wrapped his hand in the thick strands.  Then, tugging her close, he sealed his mouth over hers.  She opened for him immediately.  The first taste was a mere preview, not nearly enough, and he deepened the kiss, taking more.
Sweet, hot, and her tongue tangled with his.  He gripped her hair harder, wanting still more.  She was like all his favorite vices in one delectable package.  Best of all, she kissed him back, every inch a willing, giving partner.
He was a man who dominated and took but from the minute he tasted her, he gave as well.  If his brain were clear, he’d have pulled back immediately, but she reached out and gripped his shoulders, curling her fingers through the fabric of his shirt, her nails digging into his skin.  Each thrust of his tongue in her mouth mimicked what he really wanted, and his cock hardened even more.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” his half-brother said, interrupting at the worst possible moment.
He would have taken his time but Riley jumped, pushing at his chest and backing away from him at the same time.
“Alex!”
“Yeah.  The guy who brought you here, remember?”
Ian cursed his brother’s interruption as much as he welcomed the reminder that this woman represented everything Ian resented.  His half-brother’s friend.  Alex, with whom he had a rivalry that would have done real siblings proud.
The oldest sibling in the other family was everything Ian wasn’t.  Brash, loud, tattoos on his forearms, and he threw a mean football as quarterback of the Tampa Breakers.  Ian, meanwhile, was more of a thinker, president of the Breakers’ rivals, the Miami Thunder, owned by his father’s estranged brother, Ian’s uncle.
Riley jumped up, smoothing her dress and rubbing at her swollen lips, doing nothing to ease the tension emanating from her best friend.
Ian took his time standing.
“I see you met my brother,” Alex said, his tone tight.
Riley swallowed hard.  “We were just –“
“Getting better acquainted,” Ian said in a seductive tone meant to taunt Alex and imply just how much better he now knew Riley.
A muscle ticked in the other man’s jaw.  “Ready to go back inside?” Alex asked her.
Neither one of them would make a scene at this mockery of a family event.
“Yes.”  She didn’t meet Ian’s gaze as she walked around him and came up alongside Alex.
“Good because my dad’s been asking for you.  He said it’s been too long since he’s seen you,” Alex said, taunting Ian back with the mention of the one person sure to piss him off.
Despite knowing better, Ian took the bait.  “Go on.  We were finished anyway,” he said, dismissing Riley as surely as she’d done to him.
Never mind that she was obviously torn between her friend and whatever had just happened between them, she’d chosen Alex.  A choice Ian had been through before and come out on the same wrong end.
In what appeared to be a deliberately possessive move, Alex wrapped an arm around her waist and led her back inside.  Ian watched, ignoring the twisting pain in his gut at the sight.  Which was ridiculous.  He didn’t have any emotional investment in Riley Taylor.  He didn’t do emotion, period.  He viewed relationships through the lens of his father’s adultery, finding it easier to remain on the outside looking in.
Distance was his friend.  Sex worked for him.  It was love and commitment he distrusted.  So no matter how different that brief moment with Riley had been, that’s all it was.
A moment.
One that would never happen again.

#
Riley followed Alex onto the dance floor in silence.  They hadn’t spoken a word to each other since she’d let him lead her away from Ian.  She understood his shocked reaction and wanted to soothe his frazzled nerves, but didn’t know how.  Not when her own nerves were so raw from one simple kiss.
Except nothing about Ian was simple and that kiss left her reeling.  From the minute his lips touched hers, everything else around her ceased to matter.  The tug of arousal hit her in the pit of her stomach, in her scalp as his fingers tugged her hair, in the weight of her breasts, between her thighs and most telling, in her mind.  He was a strong man, the kind who knew what he wanted and who liked to get his way.  The type of man she usually avoided and for good reason.
But she’d never experienced chemistry so strong before.  His pull was so compelling, she’d willingly followed him outside regardless of the fact that she knew without a doubt her closest friend in the world would be hurt if she got close to Ian.
“Are you going to talk to me?” Alex asked, breaking into her thoughts.
“I’m not sure what to say.”
On the one hand, he didn’t have a say in her personal life.  She didn’t owe him an apology.  On the other he was her everything.  The child she’d grown up next door to and the best friend who’d saved her sanity and gave her a safe haven from her abusive father.
She was wrong.  She knew exactly what to say.  “I’m sorry.”
He touched his forehead to hers.  “I don’t know what came over me.  I found you two kissing and I saw red.”
“It was just chemistry.”  She let out a shaky laugh, knowing that term was too benign for what passed between her and Ian.
“I don’t want you to get hurt.  The man doesn’t do relationships, Ri.  He uses women and moves on.”
“Umm, Pot/Kettle?” she asked him.  Alex moved from woman to woman just as he’d accused his half-brother of doing.
He’d even kissed her once.  Horn dog that he was, he said he’d had to try but they both agreed there was no spark and their friendship meant way too much to throw away for a quick tumble between the sheets.
Alex frowned.  “Maybe so but that doesn’t change the facts about him.  I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I won’t,” she assured him, even as her heart picked up rhythm when she caught sight of Ian watching them from across the room.
Drink in hand, brooding expression on his face, his stare never wavered.
She curled her hands into the suit fabric covering Alex’s shoulders and assured herself she was telling the truth.
“What if he was using you to get to me?”
“Because the man can’t be interested in me for me?” she asked, her pride wounded despite the fact that Alex was just trying to protect her.
Alex slowed his steps and leaned back to look into her eyes.  “That’s not what I meant and you know it.  Any man would be lucky to have you and I’d never get in between you and the right guy.”  A muscle pulsed in Alex’s right temple, a sure sign of tension and stress.  “But Ian’s not that guy.”
She swallowed hard, hating that he just might be right. Riley wasn’t into one-night stands.  Which was why her body’s combustible reaction to Ian Dare confused and confounded her.  How far would she have let him go if Alex hadn’t interrupted? Much further than she’d like to imagine and her body responded with a full out shiver at the thought.
“Now can we forget about him?”
Not likely, she thought, when his gaze burned hotter than his kiss.  Somehow she managed to swallow over the lump in her throat and give Alex the answer he sought.  “Sure.”
Pleased, Alex pulled her back into his arms to continue their slow dance.  Around them, other guests, mostly his father’s age, moved slowly in time to the music.
“Did I mention how much I appreciate you coming here with me?” Obviously trying to ease the tension between them, he shot her the same charming grin that had women thinking they were special.
Riley knew better.  She was special to him and if he ever turned his brand of protectiveness on the right kind of woman and not the groupies he preferred, he might find himself settled and happy one day.  Sadly, he didn’t seem to be on that path.
She decided to let their disagreement over Ian go.  “I believe you’ve mentioned how wonderful I am a couple of times.  But you still owe me one,” Riley said.  Parties like this weren’t her thing.
“It took your mind off your job stress, right?” he asked.
She nodded.  “Yes and let’s not even talk about that right now.”  Monday was soon enough to deal with her new boss.
“You got it.  Ready for a break?” he asked.
She nodded.  Unable to help herself, she glanced over where she’d seen Ian earlier but he was gone.  The disappointment twisting the pit of her stomach was disproportional to the amount of time she’d known him and she blamed that kiss.
Her lips still tingled and if she closed her eyes and ran her tongue over them, she could taste his heady, masculine flavor.  Somehow she had to shake him from her thoughts.  Alex’s reaction to seeing them together meant Riley couldn’t allow herself the luxury of indulging in anything more with Ian.
Not even in her thoughts or dreams.

My Review:
4.7 Star Review – A Home For Christmas

I recommend this book.

This book contains passion, a kidnapping, and some very funny parts.

Riley witnesses a bunch of kids snatching purses and chases them down to get the purses back.  When he is returning the purses he meets Jenna.  She thanks him for getting her purse back and he asks her to lunch.

As the story unfolds you get pulled into the sweet and loving side of Riley.  He is a natural protector and try’s to protect not only Jenna but also her son Cam from her ex-husbands problems.

You get to see just how strong a person Jenna is and how far she will go to protect her family.

Cam has a lot of anger issues because of his father and how he has been treated by him over the last few years.  Sometimes it seems like some of his thoughts throughout the story are of a much older boy.

As Riley and Jenna spend more and more time together you can see them falling in love.  You can also see how that love is making Cam very happy.

Very good read. Can’t wait for Ann’s next book.  Hope some of her next stories will be about some of the other characters from this story…..

Excerpt #1:

Riley came over every evening after work. He helped Cam with his homework. he got there before she did on Wednesday and he and Cam had dinner ready by the time she got home. Jenna had to fight tears as she sat at the table. It had been so long since someone had cooked for her. To be honest, other than her mother, she didn’t think anyone ever had. Wade, her ex, certainly never did. Watching Cam work so closely with Riley, having Riley there filling the role that Wade had abandoned, even sitting at a table with candlelight and roses and food she hadn’t had to prepare…it was a lot for her to handle. She was barely hanging on by a thread and when Riley had initiated the blessing, she lost it. “Mom?” Cam asked, uncertain of what was happening. Jenna covered her face with her hands, silently crying. She heard the scrape of a chair and then suddenly Riley was there, his arms around her, lifting her from the chair. She heard him say something to Cam and then he carried her from the room.

He sat on the sofa and cradled her in his lap and just held her while she cried. After several minutes, when her tears had subsided somewhat, Riley reached down to cup her chin in his hand and lift her head so he could look into her eyes. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. “Nothing to be sorry about,” he said, smoothing his hands over her cheeks to wipe her tears away.

“Mom?” Cam asked again, drawing her attention. “You OK?” “I’m good, bud, I’m sorry.” Riley looked up at Cam and made eye contact with him. Jenna wasn’t sure what passed between them, but Cam got up and left, leaving her there with Riley. “Look at me,” he said, softly. When she raised her eyes to meet his gaze, he lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles. “What’s going on?” She took a deep breath. “It’s just…no one’s ever done something like this for me before.” “Like what? Take care of you?” She nodded. “Better get used to it, babe. I’m not going anywhere.” She squeezed his hand, tears falling down her cheeks again. This time, Riley leaned forward and kissed them away before touching his lips to hers. For the first time, Jenna didn’t hold herself back.

Maybe it was because Cam was just down the hall and she knew it couldn’t get out-of-control. Whatever the case, she turned in his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. “Thank you, Riley,” she whispered when they pulled apart, pressing her forehead to his, and placing her fingertips against his lower lip. He nipped her fingertip lightly, then ran his tongue around her finger. “Anytime,” he replied, “and I mean that. You don’t have to do it all alone any more.” “Riley,” she whispered, kissing him, “please don’t make promises you can’t keep. My heart is fragile enough, but Cam…” He kissed her back. “Quit while you’re ahead. Don’t piss me off.” She smiled and combed her fingers through the hair at his nape. “I’ll try.” “Good. Let me take care of you, Jenna.

You and Cam.” She took a deep breath. “Tell you what. You’re still here by Christmas? We’ll talk,” she said, giving him a final kiss then sliding off his lap. He watched her walk down the hall to Cam’s room. Closing his eyes and letting his head fall back on the couch, he reached down to adjust himself in his jeans. For the first time since leaving the Navy, Riley felt like he wasn’t just spinning his wheels.

Excerpt #2

Riley followed Cam into the living room and through the crowd so that they were standing at the front of the ring of people who had gathered around Jacke’s piano, his mother on his right and Jenna’s mother on his left. “Ladies and gentlemen,” Jenna’s father began, “I want to thank you for coming tonight. It is an honor and a joy to see so many of you in our home to celebrate this wonderful, joyous season with us. The wait staff is coming around with trays of champagne. Please, take a glass, and as they have done every year since they were five years old, allow my beautiful daughters to wish you and yours a wonderful, Merry Christmas.” Jackie began to play as polite applause lauded their father’s speech. Riley’s eyes were locked on Jenna as the lights were dimmed and she was illuminated only by the twinkling of Christmas lights and the flames from the candles in the room. When she began to sing “O Holy Night”, a chill ran through him at the purity and clarity of her voice.

She sounded, in his opinion, like an angel. Her voice was soft and sweet and reminded him of the times he’d heard the Celtic Woman group perform. When she hit the high note at the end, his breath caught. She was incredible. He placed his hand over his heart and flashed a bright smile to her when she finished, making her give a slight giggle. “This next song,” she announced, “has been on my heart since I met this handsome sailor,” she said, gesturing to him. “The other night, we were talking about the Christmases he spent in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, and even once in Bethlehem while in the Service, and how he missed being home for Christmas so many years. So, Riley, this one is for you.” Jackie began playing, and then, singing in a completely different voice than she had the previous song, she locked eyes with him. Her voice was sultry as she sang, “I’m dreaming tonight, of a place I love, even more than I usually do. And although, I know, it’s a long road back, I promise you…I’ll be Home for Christmas…”

Beside him, his mother placed her hand on his bicep. he reached over to touch her hand, but could not tear his gaze away from Jenna. When she finished, proper or not, he stepped forward and drew her into his arms, giving her a brief, tender kiss in front of the assembled crowd. “Thank you,” he whispered softly into her ear. “I love you, Riley,” she whispered back. He kissed her brow and started to step away but she held him to her with an arm around his waist. “We have one final song. Thank you for spending your evening with our family.” Once again, Jackie began playing, and this time, with Riley at her side, Jenna sang “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Riley had his hand on her back and could feel the notes reverberating through her as she sang. He was so impressed with her singing; her voice was beautiful, different with all three songs that she sang. Sweet, sultry, soft and gentle all mixed together. He was so unbelievably turned on he was afraid the whole room would know. When she finished singing, she turned into him once more, kissing his cheek when he leaned down to whisper, “You’re amazing,” into her ear.

Back then, access to books wasn’t as easy as it is now, so to tide her over between SVH releases, she began writing her own, Texas versions of SVH, full of lots of Texas Friday Night Lights and pitfalls and perils of teenage life in the 80s. Writing has always been a comfort and a release for her, though she never expected to be published. It wasn’t until a conversation with her husband about the rise of eBooks that she decided to try her hand at self-publishing. It was scary and exciting and ever since the release of her first book, Long Way Home on August 7, 2013 she has been on a wild roller coaster ride that she wouldn’t trade for the world.

Excerpt:
Michael leaned against a nearby rock, still watching me. With the orange-cast light from the street lamp playing off his skin, shadowing the muscles of his shoulders and arms, and the flickering of golden light his halo cast around him, he looked positively heroic, like a statue of an ancient god.
“Where to now?” I asked, approaching him.
The wind had swept his hair into a tangle of curls splayed in every direction, forming a dark, shadowy crown of their own. I reached over to smooth it, as if doing so was the most natural thing in the world, and he brushed his hand up my spine. Even through my jacket, a burning heat coursed through me. Touching the back of my head, he found my braid and pulled it out. He twisted it between his fingers, examining it, then looked up at me, his gaze open, unguarded, his pupils as wide and black as the night sky. A flush warmed the back of my neck and I stood there mesmerized by him, unable to look away.
Arcing his other arm around me, he pulled me toward him and whispered, “I shouldn’t,” against the side of my face, as though it were a confession. Then, his lips cool and salty from the sea air, he kissed me with such tenderness it made my chest ache.
But I didn’t need tenderness. I needed him. Since the last time we’d kissed, I’d been so careful around him, trying not to cross the invisible line that would either damn him or scare him away. I couldn’t be careful anymore. Gripping the front of his shirt, I pulled him closer, and he locked his arms around me like I’d always wanted him to, like maybe he’d never let me go. Sitting on the rock, he gathered me into him, sliding me onto his lap. My thighs straddled his hips and he let out the softest of moans, his lips grazing my throat, the side of my neck, the line of my jaw, before returning to mine.
With a sharp inhale, he tensed and stopped kissing me. His eyes flashed a warning look—full of fear, as though he’d gone somewhere fathomless inside himself that he’d sworn he’d never go. Standing, he guided me off his lap. When he spoke, his voice took on a deep timbre.
“We’re not alone.”

She’s never been attracted to a white man before, but his intriguing invitation to actually have sex with two men at one time captivates her imagination. My Review:
4.3 Star Review – Amber’s Fantasy

I recommend this book.

Amber enjoys reading ménage stories on her lunch break but no one knows about them or that her secret fantasy is to try re-creating the stories.

When she can’t get her computer to work before a big meeting she asks Ray for help.  After helping Ray offers to help move her boxes and stumbles across her books.

When they are alone he offers to help make her fantasy come true she is embarrassed and turned on at the same time.  Ray has no idea what he is doing but he totally wants Amber.  So if in order to get her he has to do something different he decides that it is worth it.

Should she take him up on the offer?  Truly will it be worth it in the end for either of them? Or will it tear apart even the friendship between them both?

Very hot and sexy read!!  Can’t wait for Pepper’s next book.

Author Info

Like most writers, I’ve worn quite a collection of hats over the years ~ voice actor, artist, bookkeeper, retail sales ~ but I’ve always wanted to be a writer. My biggest dream was to see my name on a book cover. Now, with the advent of e-publishing, the covers may be virtual, but the thrill of seeing my name on them is real. I am so humbled by the idea that my stories might draw in a reader and provide her an hour or two of entertainment.

I’ve been married to my best friend Tom for thirty years. Together we’ve raised two amazing sons, and recently welcomed our first grand daughter, Leona Mae. Most days you can find me at our family’s computer repair shop in a small town outside Portland, Oregon. At night I go home to my rambling fixer-upper in the woods and toil at my writing, assisted by a small menagerie of furry assistants.

I love it when a reader takes a moment to reach out and let me know what she thinks of my stories. I hope you’ll feel free to email me or leave a comment on my website.
