My Review:

4.7 Star Review – Hard Target (Elite Ops # 1)

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book by Kay.  This book includes passion, laughs, heartache, kidnappings, murder, betrayal and a few gun fights.

Anna Mercado is on vacation with her husband and son when she overhears her husband planning her murder and her son’s kidnapping.  She goes on the run and is hiding in a hotel when he tracks her down.  Leland is staying at the hotel and comes to her aid and saves her.  When her son is kidnapped they team up.  He is going to protect her no matter what as he thinks he might be the reason they took her son.

Anna is slowly falling apart and is trying her hardest to keep it together.  When they find out exactly what the kidnapper wants Leland is furious.  He gets even more furious when Anna agrees.  No way is he letting her give the kidnapper what he wants.  How is he going to save everyone and get them all out of this mess.

Grab the book to find out.

Leland is a strong willed man.  He has issues of his own but is determined to save Anna and her son no matter what.  Even if they both hate him after.  Anna has had to be strong for a while but she is slowly unraveling.  Can she really trust Leland to get her son back?  Does she even have a choice.

A very good read.  Kay delivers a suspense fueled love story like no other.  You know at the end of the day people are going to be furious about the steps that were taken for the outcome to be good.  They will just have to learn to deal with it.

About Kay:

I didn’t grow up burning to be a writer. As a child I wasn’t even much of a reader until fourth grade. That’s when I was stuck at home with the flu and my big sister read THE BLACK STALLION aloud to me. For hours I was enthralled—shipwrecked in a foreign land and riding an untamed horse across the hot desert sand. Then tragedy struck. My sister lost her voice. (I think she caught my flu.) But I couldn’t wait to hear what happened to Alec Ramsey—so I picked up that book, finished reading it by myself, and went in search of more adventures at the local library. Today I live in Dallas with my husband, our two children, and a shockingly-spoiled Boston terrier.

My next novel will be published with Avon Impulse in November 2013. HARD TARGET is the first installment in a three-book romantic suspense series titled ELITE OPS, featuring sexy ex-military men…and the women who rescue their hearts. For excerpts, book trailers, and more—visit my website.

“Take Zach from the party before the guests arrive. We won’t dump her body until the designated time. It’s all been arranged.”

Anna stopped in the doorway of the Presidential suite, her husband’s words abruptly penetrating her lust-fogged brain.

“No, I’m not worried. Haven’t you heard? Mexico is the land of vicious drug cartels and random violence. My wife will be a sad statistic.”

Was this a dream?

She felt the cold Italian marble beneath her bare feet and recognized Max’s voice in the adjoining room, but she didn’t wake up. The seductive words he had whispered moments earlier on the beach still resonated in her head.

The only thing I want you to wrap yourself around is me.

She’d come up immediately when Julia had volunteered to get Zach and the cousins’ meals from the hotel’s beach grill. But on the way to the room she’d been calling herself all kinds of a fool. She and Max were on the verge of officially separating even though they’d been living apart for several months. The counseling wasn’t working. Having sex was a terrible idea. Even comfort sex.

Yet he’d been so attentive, so different on this trip. So anxious to please her, while keeping his temper completely in check. Last week she’d been considering which attorney to use in a divorce. Now she was just grateful she was standing here overhearing his phone conversation in the next room.

Her thoughts raced and her blood chilled, but her feet were glued to the imported floor. She stared across the opulent suite’s living room to the open balcony doors. The heir to the Mercado Tequila fortune settled for nothing less than the finest, even when planning his family’s demise.

An ocean breeze blew through the room, ruffling her hair like a playful lover. The Gulf of Mexico was just as blue as it had been ten minutes ago when Max kissed her on the sand, yet everything had changed. She was listening to her husband order their son’s kidnapping and her murder.

Logan Kalford was Wren Summers’ dream come true.

All I’d ever wanted was to fall in love and be loved in return.
Logan stole my heart when I least expected it. He was sexy, adventurous, and the way he played guitar left me weak in the knees. He made me happy. He made me think I’d found the one. And he made me believe in happy endings.
I knew he was my forever. I thought he knew it too.
I was wrong.
He destroyed everything I thought we had and shattered my dreams of us. He left me heartbroken. He made me doubt myself.
And he didn’t even seem to care…
Now I must let go. But how can I when he still consumes me?
How do you walk away from what you know was real?

The following Saturday, Distort is playing their first weekend gig at The Edge. Cassidy and I are working together as the bar starts filling up close to capacity. I serve the reserved table their drinks as Holly constantly glares at me. Nothing, not even her, can ruin my good mood. Logan has slept over almost every night this past week. And what a week it has been!
As I walk past the stage, I can’t help but glance up at him. I love how he randomly winks at me or points to me as he plays his guitar. Being picked out of a room full of people makes a girl feel special. I smile shyly and carry on with my job.
I’m serving a group of regulars when I hear laughter and cheers all around me. I turn to see Logan standing there, singing directly to me. I’m mortified! I don’t like attention in the slightest, and certainly not in a room with almost three hundred people. I put one hand over my face as Logan takes the other, falling to his knees for drastic measure. I endure it as long as possible before I tug on his hand, trying to make him stand up and stop with this nonsense. My face turns a new shade of red as he finally stops singing long enough to give me a lengthy kiss for all to see, and then continues singing as he walks over and jumps back up on stage. I know he did it just to get a rise out of me. Mission accomplished.
I continue getting sexy glances from Logan throughout the night, but he’s lucky I even look his way after that stunt. I also get a few friendly slaps on the back from some of the regulars with comments about how good we look together.
When their final set is over, I go into the side room off stage, for no other reason than to watch Logan take his shirt off. Giving me a few seconds to lust after him without his knowledge. I notice Holly is taking in an eyeful as well. I roll my eyes at her. Don’t even think about it.
As if sensing I’m near, he turns and comes over to embrace me. Giving me a lingering hug, and a hungry kiss, he asks, “Can I come over tonight?”
“Logan, you can come over any time you want. But after that shit you pulled tonight…well, I’m not so sure anymore,” I taunt.
“Oh, come on. You liked it.”
“I did not! That was extremely embarrassing. I had people coming up to me all night on account of you.”
“Well, I sure enjoyed it. I like people knowing you’re mine.”
“But I’m not yours,” I say directly.
“I hate to break it to you, but you are now,” he says with a glimmer of mischief in his eyes.

[Cover Reveal] Bride Unbridled by Damon Starc

Bride Unbridled by Damon Starc
Genre: Erotica
Expected Release Date: December 2013

  ~Synopsis~

An elegantly explicit erotic novella.

As the Newlyweds embark on the erotic adventure of their honeymoon the sexual tension threatens to bubble over. They have endured a selfimposed sex embargo, part of an erotic pact that dares the Bride to expose her gorgeous body publicly; a pact designed to add a little fire to their honeymoon.

The Bride is full of life and energy, “…exquisite, still cocooned in the flowing white lie, a sterile illusion betrayed by her green eyes, a sparkling window to a soul exploding in colour.”

Erotic sparks begin to fly from the moment they are in the limo to the airport and continue throughout their international flight as they tease each other with scorching erotic fantasies and confessions.

Little do they know it will ignite an erotic inferno.

The enigmatic Groom is torn between his erotic fantasies of wifewatching and his possessive tendencies towards control and jealousy and his Bride knows it.

The Bride nervously fulfils her dare and finds her exhibitionism surprisingly fulfilling. Her Groom had hoped it would give her selfimage a boost and him a thrill but he gets more than he bargained for.

The Bride rebelliously fuels the inner battle in her new husband when they meet the charismatic alpha male Lancelot and the desirable Paulo, drawing her into an exploration of her own long suppressed erotic desires and sexual taboos.

Lancelot seems to understand her hidden needs better than she does and enjoys the challenge of forcing her astray, “a wedding ring is the ultimate sex toy and you already have one of them.”

Sexual boundaries are tested and then smashed as the Bride is taken to new erotic heights. “Inch by meaty inch they drag her to the peak of her private Everest.”

And what of her Groom, handcuffed and cuckolded, will his inner conflict destroy him? Will this white hot erotic affair destroy their one day old marriage?

 About Damon

My suffering for my art began at a tender age when I first started my research into erotica undressing a Barbie doll to explore her firm but nippleless breasts, resulting in a fair slapping from my mother when she caught me in the act.

Only temporarily deterred, puberty found me secretly and enthusiastically studying the erotic novels my parents kept hidden in their sock drawers.

By my estimate I have dedicated around 40,000 hours to erotic fantasies, um, research, since those first tentative steps.

The Bride Unbridled is my first novella, born from the seed Barbie helped plant all those years ago and which I have diligently nourished daily ever since.

The Bride Unbridled is the beginning of a series of Transformational Erotica.

Enjoy,

Damon

I wanted to break out into a monumental smile, but I kept my composure and remained stone-faced. Declan commanded such power and enormity that I felt hindered by the space in the room. His significant posture throughout the encounter had just filled it. There was no time for smiles or pleasantries to be exchanged as we exited. An astonished hush had fallen on all of the personnel involved that were still present within this theatre. Declan’s distaste for Marisol was evident, and the fact that he had made it, not only blatantly clear but publicly evident, registered on her face. Her agitation was sourly unleashed in her expression. Once Declan had dismissed her, she turned her resentful stare to me. It appeared that she now declared who the culprit of her disgrace was, and she decided that my involvement with Declan was the core and cause.
Although I didn’t and likely would never have reason to engage personally with Marisol, it seemed as if she was going to make it her mission to make it personal between us…
Declan’s changed demeanor insinuated that we weren’t going to stay here a moment longer than necessary, so I gathered my personal items from the theater seat. Our plans were to have a nice dinner and do some “touristy” things in New York, at my request, since all of this was new to me; however, I wasn’t certain how his encounter with Marisol would alter those plans.
Looking around at all of the people it took to make a product campaign successful, I had a newfound appreciation for the profession he had chosen. He worked very hard at insuring his representation for his clients was to the best of his ability. There was so much more involved than just looking pretty and taking good pictures. I was extremely proud of him and his work, and I had enjoyed seeing it firsthand.
Declan came over to me and kissed me, but I felt the underlying rage.
“Baby, I’m just going to grab my things, and then we’ll go. Do you want to come with me?” he asked.
“No, I’m good. I’ll be right here,” I said.
He looked around and seemed a bit worried.
“I’ll be right back, okay?”
I nodded my head in affirmation. TT
While he had stepped away to gather his items, a sultry, female voice came from behind me. “He is a most pretty man, is he not?” I heard in a Latin accent.
As I turned, I saw Marisol; the same woman with whom Declan had just had an altercation.
Pretty, isn’t a word that I’d use to describe Declan,” I said sarcastically, and I offered no other comment. This woman caused my “bad news” radar to go into overdrive and I did not want to encourage conversation.
She wasn’t going to give up without a fight. “Perhaps there are better words to describe him,” she said. “At least, parts of him. ThickHardBig…I’ve always enjoyed it,” she emphasized each word as she leered at me, challenging.
“We haven’t met,” she said. “I’m Marisol Franzi—a very…Special…friend of Declan’s.”
I know that my face reflected composure, but my stomach was revolting. Although I hadn’t eaten, I was nauseous, and I feared that I might vomit on her Louboutins.
By nature, I’m not a woman who likes confrontation of any sort. In fact, I’d go out of my way to avoid it. However, it occurred to me that I tried to avoid confrontation when it addressed me. This topic, unlucky for her, addressed Declan. A foreign, protective feeling began to arise within me, and I could feel myself straighten and stiffen. Feeling as if I had a spine of steel and a stare of the same, with rigid self-possession and controlled confidence, I looked her square in the eye to address her—the bitchy snake.
“I would have introduced myself to you; however, Declan found you so exhaustively insignificant that he didn’t deem it necessary to mention knowing you to me. As I know him to be an excellent judge of character, I believe I will follow his lead. As for you being Declan’s girlfriend? I don’t believe he shares that opinion. It would appear that your relationship with him exists delusionally…only in your absurd, little mind. I also know him to be a man of high caliber, again something which you are not. From the exchange I witnessed a few moments ago, you appear to be a waste of his time, and now mine. Now get the hellout of my way!” I stared into her face as I said it, though my knees were threatening to shake.
The vicious anger she felt was now apparent on her face. “Who the hell do you think you are?” she spat at me. “You fat, little puta bitch! You can’t compete with me in any way! You are nothing but a—”
With that, I saw a large hand grip her upper arm and spin her around.
Enough!” Declan said.

CHAPTER 1

It started with a purple moose.
At least I thought it was a moose. On reflection, it could have been a reindeer, but it didn’t matter at the time because it was obviously just a dream.
“Mistletoe,” the moose-reindeer said.
Yep. Still hate my parents for naming me that.
“Mistletoe,” it said again in a spooky echo of a voice, “I am the Ghost of Christmases Ruined, and I have come to tell you something.”
“Go away.” I turned over in bed.
“Mistletoe Bell,” it said sharply. “Listen to me right now.”
I sat up, suddenly wide awake. God, what a freaky dream.
“Mistletoe Bell,” it said again. I jumped out of my skin. I clutched the duvet to me as I turned around. Of all the things I expected to see, the purple moose sitting in the middle of my carpet and looking annoyed was about the last of them.
“Wh… what are you?” I asked quietly. I didn’t really believe my eyes. I must still be dreaming.
“I’ve tried to tell you already. I am the Ghost of Christmases Ruined.”
I tried to pinch myself awake without the moose noticing. It didn’t work. I didn’t wake up and the moose noticed.
“It won’t work,” the moose said. “You’re already awake.”
“I’m looking at a talking purple moose. I don’t think so.”
“You are Mistletoe Bell?” the moose asked.
I dropped my head into my hands and edged closer to the other side of the bed.
The moose continued to look at me expectantly.
“Unfortunately, yes. I couldn’t be anyone else with that stupid name.”
“It’s a very nice Christmas name.”
“That’s exactly the bloody problem. You try having a stupid Christmassy name in the middle of July or something.”
“Ah yes, but it’s December now.”
“Screw December,” I muttered.
“Aha,” the moose said. “This is exactly why I’m here.”
I gave it an angry look. “What the hell are you going on about?”
“Well, if you’d be so kind as to allow me to get to my point, I will enlighten you.”
I sighed in frustration.
“Mistletoe Bell,” the moose said, “you have been charged with ruining Christmas. Multiple counts over the years, but a particularly aggressive case this year when taking into account the fire—”
“The fire was an accident.”
It gave me a glare and I rolled my eyes. “Please go on,” I said, complete with a sarcastic hand gesture.
“As I was saying…” The moose had an annoyed tone to its voice now. “Ruining Christmas, multiple counts, we can’t let it continue. We’ve been keeping an eye on you for a while now. We were actually hoping you might grow out of it now you’re nearly seventeen, but the fire this year is the final straw. Mistletoe—”
“Please stop calling me that.” I interrupted it again. “It’s Mis, Misty, or nothing.”
The moose rolled its eyes. “I am required to call you by your proper name at all times. Now, can we get on with it?”
“Get on with what?”
“Mistletoe Bell, tomorrow you will be taken to the North Pole where you will stay until you can learn how to behave acceptably and stop ruining Christmas for others. You will be part of a group who will learn the value of Christmas to all involved.”
“That’s ridiculous. Who’s going to teach me? The polar bears?”
“The elves will teach you.”
“Of course they will.” I smacked my forehead. “Of course there are elves. I don’t know why I expected anything else from a purple moose.”
The moose made a frustrated noise. “Mistletoe, do you understand?”
“I will be taken to the North Pole and taught by elves? Yes, I understand perfectly.”
“I must be on my way. Sweet dreams, Mistletoe.” The moose got up and jumped out of the window.
I rolled over and went back to sleep. I must’ve eaten cheese before bed last night or something.
There were more weird dreams. I dreamt of flying above the rooftops and over the oceans, and it was really, really cold. I’m pretty sure I could hear strains of “Walking in the Air” in the distance.

Excerpt

“Where is Winn?”

Kelly’s gruff, rumbling voice caught me by surprise. I whirled around to find him standing a few steps behind me. Wearing only shorts and sneakers, he wiped at his ridiculously sexy chest with a white gym towel before slinging it over his shoulder. The sight of his tanned, toned chest and the tattoos accentuating the rippling bulges of muscle left me momentarily speechless.

“Bee?”

Shaking myself from my lust-induced stupor, I said, “He’s in the restroom. I sort of busted his nose.”

He looked taken aback and then smiled proudly. “Way to go, sweetheart.”

“Um…not exactly. It was an accident.”

“An accident?”

“Well, it tickled and I started laughing—”

Eyes narrowed, he asked, “What tickled?”

“Winn’s hold on me.”

“I see.” His lips twitched, and I knew he wasn’t angry at all. Touching my cheek, he murmured, “I’ll have to keep that in mind…for later.”

At the mention of later, I trembled with anticipation. “Oh?”

“We’ll practice some of the holds Jack showed you.”

“Holds, huh?” I daringly traced his navel and delighted in the way he inhaled sharply. Thinking of the moves I had just learned, I considered whether or not I could take Kelly down. He was a foot taller than me and nearly twice as heavy. Could I catch him off-guard?

Deciding there was no time like the present, I hastily planned my attack. Kelly reached out to stroke my face, but I kicked out my leg to hook his knee. The expression on his face was comical as the realization that I was attacking him registered—but his lightning fast reflexes, honed by years at war, snapped into action.

I gasped as he snatched my ankle mid-air and jerked hard enough to pull me off my feet. The thick mat cushioned my fall. Kelly followed me down to the floor, attempting to trap me, but I twisted my hips and narrowly evaded him. My brief victory didn’t last. He grabbed my wrists in one big paw and pinned them overhead before insinuating himself between my thighs.

Remembering Jack’s lessons, I arched up onto my shoulders and tried to squeeze his ribs with my knees. Kelly shifted, and I ended up wrapping my legs around his waist. Our bodies locked together in such an intimate way. Suddenly my failed attack started to feel like foreplay.

Changing tactics, I hooked my ankles at the small of Kelly’s back and rocked my body against his. His low groan sounded almost pained. Eyes flashing with need, he lowered his face and warningly growled, “Bee.”

Breathless and shaking with desire, I whispered, “Kiss me.”

He capitulated to my request and brushed his mouth against mine. Refusing to be denied what I wanted most, I thrust my aching breasts against his hot, hard chest and dipped my tongue between his lips. A rumbling noise emanated from his throat, vibrating against my lips and sending white-hot shivers through my core.

A loudly cleared throat interrupted our steamy kiss. Tearing away from each other, we glanced in the direction of the noise and discovered Jack standing a few feet away and watching us with amusement. The rest of the room was empty except for Winn, who seemed to have gotten his bloody nose under control.

Jack rubbed his jaw as if thinking. “You know, I’m pretty sure that’s not a self-defense technique I teach.”

Not the least bit embarrassed, I simply shrugged. “You’d have a hell of a lot more signups for your classes if you did.”

About the Author
Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.

“Could I maybe get a dance, Miss Haydenshire?” Rainer quizzed flirtatiously.

Emily giggled.

“I thought you’d never ask.” Rainer led her onto the dance floor and spun her into his arms. The slow sultry tones of the island band, the lanai lit by Tiki torches, and strung orbed lights, that Nathan had set to glow different colors, gave the entire evening a warm island feel.

Rainer twirled Emily around the dance floor and whispered how much he loved her as he slid his hand further down her back.

“Watch your hands there, Mr. Lawson.” Governor Haydenshire teased as he danced Mrs. Haydenshire beside Rainer and Emily.

“Yes sir,” Rainer moved his hand back up instantly which made everyone laugh. Logan cut in, and Rainer danced with Adeline. He took a break and got he and Emily some punch, while Governor Haydenshire danced with Emily. He set the punch back at their table as the song neared its end. Rainer edged back onto the dance floor towards Emily and her father.

“Can I cut in?”

“No,” Governor Haydenshire quipped. Emily laughed heartily.

“Aww, please Daddy. He’s really cute.” Governor Haydenshire shook his head with a wistful grin.

“I never have been very good at telling you ‘no.’” He kissed Emily’s cheek and handed her back to Rainer.

A slight breeze picked up as the night wore on, and Rainer felt a chill as the hair on the back of his neck stood. He took in the guests as they laughed, danced, and all enjoyed the party,

Suddenly everything shifted. Emily froze on the dance floor. She shivered and clung to Rainer.

“Em, what’s wrong?” Rainer panicked. He searched the area frantically as Emily’s hands flew to her head. She shook her head. The black energy was too close. She could hardly breathe. One of the wait staff was handing Mrs. Haydenshire a cup of punch.

Then as Emily hushed, “Rainer there’s someone here that’s not supposed to be. I feel them.” Rainer watched as Vindico’s eyes goggled and he shoved two men out of his way. He knocked the glass from Mrs. Haydenshire’s hand just as she’d taken a small sip. It shattered on the tiled floor.

“That’s, Vasquez!” He shouted to Rainer and Logan. He threw his arm out to the member of the wait staff that was fleeing the scene. They hadn’t recognized him in the catering disguise complete with hat and glasses.

 About Dawn

I’ve always been an avid reader. Majoring in English Literature was a no brainer. Becoming a teacher and instilling my love for reading into my students was also a no brainer. I’ve spent the last ten years teaching and I’ve loved (mostly) every minute of it. When I was home on maternity leave for my third son, I discovered a new genre that sparked my creativity. My passion for writing sprang from my love of reading and once I knew I had a story to tell, I couldn’t wait to get it out there. I only hope that my readers enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
