Designing Love Book #1

Trish DeVign knows what she needs to be single, successful and satisfied. She needs a baby. With recent relationships falling short of her expectations, she’s single by choice. With a thriving interior design company, she’s got successful covered. It’s the satisfied part that eludes her, and that’s her mother’s fault—not her adopted mother, but the mother who gave her away, sentencing her to a privileged life with two good people who don’t share with her a single drop of DNA.

Tony Corcarelli has spent his adult life as the black sheep of his large Italian-American family ever since he turned his back on running the family carpentry business so he could live a more laidback life, forcing his sister to take the reins. Now, Tony’s grandmother has cancer, and he’s expected to join the family in making her wishes come true. Unfortunately, the two things Nonna wants most for Tony are two things he can’t fathom: a wife and kids or the priesthood. There has to be another way.

When Trish asks her best friend’s brother, Tony, to escort her to a wedding, a night of fun and flirtation turns serious, with Trish confessing she wants a baby. Could a calculated conception be the answer they’ve both been looking for?

My Review:

4.7 Star Review – Baby by Design (Designing Love Book #1)

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book by Elley. This book includes passion, laughs, heartache, and a sweet love story.

Trish DeVign wants a baby.  She is dating to try to get a man that is husband material so she can get married and have a baby.  But her dates all turn out to be bad choices.

Tony Corcarelli is considered the family bad boy.  His family thinks he is a screw up.  But Trish thinks he is HOT.

Can the bad boy give her what she wants?  Will he be okay with what she needs from him.

Trish is a planner and a thinker.  She spends her time making plans and overthinking everything.

Tony is a bad boy.  He spends his time on a motorcycle running from the family problems.  Can he stay in one place long enough to help out Trish?

Very good read.  Love all the surrounding characters.  Can’t wait to see who shows up in the next book.

Funny part:

He thought about it as he parked his bike and jogged the steps to his flat. Ultimately, he wasn’t worried he’d end up married in Vegas, because after seeing the pain of his mother becoming a widow and Vin’s ugly divorce, marriage lost its luster—not that it had much before. If you could get the goods without the gold, then why bother. And if you could get the kid, too? Bing-to-the-O.

Tony turned back to the chairs and Trish, who had removed the plastic covering and settled onto the cushion, crossing her long legs and bouncing one barefoot with red painted toes in his direction. As she sat, she rubbed her palms over the arms of the chair and breathed deeply enough that he risked hypnosis by the rise and fall of her breasts. Not the sort of thing he wanted to notice about a woman he couldn’t pursue.

“You really do great work.”

He smiled and stepped closer, because he was a gentleman who’d just been complimented. “Thank you.” He squatted and ran his hand along the nailhead trim, grazing her covered calf muscle, because he was a guy who liked the way her face flushed whenever he stood too close. “I’m glad you like it. When you’re in need of my skills again, you know where to find me.” And then he stood, taking two steps back toward the hall, because even a screw-up like him knew where to draw the line.

She sat ramrod straight, gripping the arms of the chair. “Tony, I need a favor.”

He stopped. “What’s up?”

“I need a…guest for my cousin’s wedding on Saturday. Would you happen to be interested?”

“I take it the good doctor wasn’t so good.”

A nervous chuckle escaped her lips. “Not good at all. And I RSVP’d for two with the hope that he’d still be around, and now my mother is driving me crazy, saying I can’t embarrass myself and her by cancelling this late in the game. I’m stuck.”

It was Tony’s turn to chuckle. “So you want me to unstick you?”

She shrugged, managing cute, coy, and sexy with one pouty-mouthed look. “Would you?”

If he was sane and sensible, no, he wouldn’t. “Absolutely. What time should I pick you up?”

“Thank you,” she breathed on a noisy exhale. “We should leave at three, but I’ll drive.”

“You don’t trust my driving?”

“It’s a wedding, Tony, and I’m wearing a dress. You should wear a suit, like the one you wore to Nonna’s party.” He liked the way she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth when she paused for a breath. “Dress clothes can’t be worn on the back of a motorcycle.”

An image of her creamy leg stretching out from beneath a short skirt and hanging alongside the chrome of his bike made his skin itch. He grinned to cover the not-so-innocent thought. “No bike. Got it. I’ll pick you up at three.” And before she could protest, he turned around and walked away.

He’d never been the kind of guy to let a woman down, and that was a blessing and curse. Now he needed a car worthy of escorting Trish DeVign to a family wedding, in addition to a grand gesture for Nonna’s wish list.

Talk about pressure.

About Sibylla Matilde
!Sibylla Matilde
Sibylla Matilde grew up in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana, and grew up exploring the alfalfa fields on the back of a horse. She attended a two-room schoolhouse 1st through 6th grade where she had same teacher the whole time. Beginning at about age 12, Sibylla discovered historical romance, feeding off of work of Jude Devereaux, Lisa Kleypas, and Karen Robards. She loves a book that can make the reader run the gamut of emotions, from the sweet glow of new love to gut-wrenching heartache. She always has stories floating around in her head, living in some fantasyland until she writes them down to free them. She is a true romantic, a bit of a Pollyanna, and a deeply emotional soul.
Music is her emotional trigger. Growing up with a Wagnarian-opera-loving mother, Sibylla grew up with music that digs deep into her soul and pulls out emotion. The soundtrack to her life includes different genres and generations. She looooooooves Thirty Seconds to Mars (rather obsessively, actually) with a little Kings of Leon to mix things up, and pimps them out regularly to all her friends through Spotify. She also enjoys watching Met Opera HD broadcasts at her local movie theater, and hopes (listening Met?) to someday see Diana Damrau reprise her role as Mozart’s Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte – The Magic Flute.
Sibylla lives with her husband, Mike, a man who she firmly believes saved her from her self-destructive, hot mess self. He makes her laugh every day, even when things seem to be falling apart around them, and has proved to her that love really can heal a shattered soul. In 18 years, they have never had a fight, but argue regularly with their two teenage kids who have, unfortunately, inherited their father’s quick wit (unfortunate as it is a quick wit that Sibylla, herself, definitely does not possess – there is a reason she is a writer and not a stand-up comedian), and live a quiet life with their two weird little rescued Chiweenies. Wait… teenagers and little yap-dogs? Okay, maybe not so quiet. 🙂

 From Chapter 4

Thank God!  His truck was there.

Reenergized, she hopped up his front steps and knocked. Nothing. Feeling a little disgruntled, she knocked again. And nothing. Once more, one last time, she knocked. Okay, she pounded. Beat the ever-loving hell out of the door.

“Just a sec,” she heard Ronin call faintly.

Yay!  The door swung open and… Ooooohhhhh!

Standing a step or two down from Ronin, her eyes first hit the small white towel wrapped around his waist. The faint scent of masculine soap enveloped her senses as her eyes traveled down to his bare feet, and back up. Yep, that’s really only just a little white towel. With an embarrassingly audible gulping sound, her vision slowly traveled up to his bare chest. It was mouthwatering… broad with a light dusting of hair over his pectorals. Firm and solid, lightly tanned muscles of a physical, hard-working man. A little higher and she saw the reason for his undressed state. Shaving cream spread across the lower half of his face. Somehow, the shaving cream made his hazel eyes appear to glow, and her fingers tingled with the desire to smooth the white foamy layer along his strong jaw.

“Um, sweetheart?  Did you need something?” Ronin asked, a slight grin appearing beneath the soapy layer.

“I… um… car ticking… and… not starting…” she stuttered, unable to form a single coherent thought.

Ronin wasn’t helping, either, just standing there with a half-smile and waiting for her to spit out something… anything. Finally, she just had to forcefully rip her eyes away. Focus on the truck. You need liquor, and he can go get it in his truck.

“Could I, um… Amy, Joanie, and I need some booze. Would, um, would you be willing to run to the liquor store for me?”  She could barely look at the guy, and her voice practically squeaked when she talked. What the hell was wrong with her?

Ronin seemed to enjoy her discomfort, his eyes narrowing a bit. He folded his arms across his chest and leaned up against the doorframe totally relaxed with his near nudity. As he crossed one foot in front of the other, the motion pulled slightly at the bottom of the towel to reveal an upside-down V of skin which drew her eyes back to the scant covering. Devin realized her jaw was hanging open, and she snapped it closed, glancing up to see his smile had broadened. Damn.

My Review:

5.0 Star Review – The Christmas Cookie Collection

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book by Lori.  This book sweet romance, laughs, heartache, and a missing wife.

Carrie MacGregor and Mark Leland were high school sweethearts who ran off to get married.  After they returned to the town pressure made Carrie ask for an annulment.  Mark left for college and has not been back for eight years.  He is coming back to town to shoot a TV show that is trying to prove if the legend of the town is fact of fiction.  Is there still an attraction between the two?  Or have they moved on?

Raylene was young and thought the best thing for her daughter was to give her up.  When her husband finds out he leaves her.  Now she is alone and heartbroken.  When she finds her daughter she is grateful and happy but still feels the guilt about giving her up.  This story also contains a side story of her daughter, Shannon and Nate.

Christine a bakery owner is closing one night when a man from her past comes into the shop.  She is surprised he remembers her.  He needs a cake and arranges for her to deliver it for his daughter’s birthday.  After spending time with him she realizes she still has a crush.  Does he feel anything for her?

Flynn is pregnant with Jesse’s baby when they are pulled over one night.  After the police take Jesse in for questioning and she start home something happens that causes her to lose control of the car.   When Jesse finally comes home and the house is empty he is frantic.  Will he be able to find Flynn and if he does will she be okay?

Lori’s characters are very believable and real.  They have awkward moments and are caught unaware so it not just the same story.  You get new characters with a past you learn about with everyone of them.  I always feel she fills in all the areas you need to know about the characters that if you met them you would be wondering about anyway.  So in a sense you feel as if you know them and might one day sit and have conversions with one of them.
 Very good read.

Down at the Horny Toad Tavern off Highway 377 in Twilight, Texas, Elvis Presley was singing, “Blue Christmas.”

The jukebox music sounded tinny and faraway as it bled through the door into the crisp night air. Weather reports predicted temperatures would slide below freezing by morning, and listeners had been urged to bring in plants and pets. No holiday lights decorated the building as they had in previous years. Other then Elvis’s mournful tune, the establishment gave no hint that Christmas was on the way. Only a few cars sat in the parking lot, sparse for a Saturday night, but most of the hamlet’s denizens were out celebrating the annual Dickens on the Square.

In the thick of darkening shadows from the cedar copse rimming the outskirts of the parking lot, a silent figure in a red suit, long white beard, and shiny black boots waited, watching the back entrance of the tavern, hungry to catch a glimpse of one person in particular.

After an interminable half-hour, shortly before midnight, the rear door to the Horny Toad opened, hinges creaking in the cold and letting out the strain of the Eagles singing “Please Come Home for Christmas.”

The watcher tensed, heart pounding and wind-burned hands fisted inside the pockets of the Santa costume.

A woman appeared. Once upon a time she’d possessed beautiful blond hair, but now it had grown steely gray. The watcher’s breath caught. She had stopped dying her hair.

She carried a black garbage bag, heavy with clanking bottles, and started toward the Dumpster, her movements graceful as always. Years ago she’d been a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and she’d kept her slender, hourglass figure even into her sixth decade of life. But instead of the mini-skirts she usually favored because she had the most sensational legs of any woman in town no matter what their age, she wore oversized blue jeans and a gray wool sweater with a saggy hem.

The watcher’s tongue moistened parched tips. Wishing. Wishing for so many things. Wishing, but unable to make those dreams come true. You couldn’t turn back the clock, no matter how hard you might try. Redemption was so close and yet so far away.

The garbage bag made a muffled thumping sound when it landed in the Dumpster. The air smelled of juniper and wood smoke. She dusted her hands and turned toward the bar. Her breath came out in frosty puffs. The moonlight caught her face. Her eyes were worn thin, exhausted.

The watcher shifted in the darkness, gut twisting. Don’t go. Stay. Stay so I can see you for just a little while longer. One last time.

She paused and looked out into the darkness, her face a portrait of abject bleakness.
A lump blocked the watcher’s throat.

The woman shook her head, pushed open the door. Roy Orbison was singing “Pretty Paper.” Sad songs. All sad Christmas songs. She stepped inside, the door snapping shut behind her.
A single chilly tear tracked down the watcher’s cheek. Gone. Everything once loved and taken for granted was now forever gone.

My Review:

4.6 Star Review – Chasing Morgan

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book by Jennifer.  This book includes passion, laughs, heartache, psychics and murders.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books first.

Saved by the Rancher (The Hunted #1)
Lucky Like Us (The Hunted #2)
The Right Bride (The Hunted #3)

FBI Agent Tyler Reed has been working with a psychic for the last 5 years via phone calls.  Before that he really didn’t believe in anything that he could see.  When a woman came up to him and gave him information that lead him to be able to save his sister’s life he started to believe.

That was the last time he saw Morgan Standish in the flesh.  Morgan has been helping Tyler & his partner Sam since that day on their cases.  She is in Tyler’s head and can sometimes talk directly to him in his mind.  If he needs her he thinks about her and she will call him.  He vents all his problems to her and she listens.  All Morgan has asked of him in all the years is that it never get out that she is helping him.

When a detective who is mad about the FBI & Morgan solving his case tells the press Tyler and a psychic named Morgan were working together all hell breaks loose.  Tyler can feel Morgan scream and pull away from him.  He feels so empty without her presence that he has felt for the last 5 years.  Since Tyler has only ever received contact via the phone from Morgan he has no idea where she is and how to contact her.

Her father calls and tells Tyler her last name which they had not known before and asks where she is.  After they run checks on him they find out he has been in prison and holds Morgan responsible for him being there.  Even with her name they can’t find her.

When other psychic’s in the town are being murdered they try even harder to contact her.  With every new murder they know the killer wants Morgan as he thinks she can see all that he has done.  He wants to kill her last but he must kill all the others so they can’t see his past evil deeds.

Morgan has been living as Matt’s (Sam’s twin brother; Sam) neighbor for the past two years.  She has sworn him to secrecy about her location and not telling Tyler or Sam.      After losing her connection with Tyler she has no idea until Matt tells her that there is a killer killing the off the psychic’s.

She comes to town to help Sam and Tyler.  But will Tyler accept her help?  Can she save the next psychic from the killer?  While she is helping out the FBI will her father find her?  What exactly is in Morgan’s past that Tyler didn’t know because he never asked?

Tyler is sweet but misguided in his relationships.  He is all about setting down but at what cost?  Morgan is a sweet woman.  When she has a vision it drains her and leaves her exhausted.  As she helps out more and more what cost is it putting on her mentally and physically?
